My thoughts on the 1973 Triumph TR6 with the 2.5L straight six engine and 5 speed manual transmission!

I loved watching this video. We bought a new Triumph TR6 with a removable hard top in 1973. She cost $4500 plus $500 for the hard top. I learned to drive a 4 speed on that car. We found that she had a very unforgiving clutch. Many of our friends could not get her to start because it seemed they didn’t press the clutch pedal completely to the floor. The driver could not be sloppy about that! That was comical! I was a 23 year old girl and never had a problem with the clutch. Starting on a cold morning meant pulling the choke out completely, then slowly releasing. Otherwise, she would stall. I loved that car! After our son was born in 1977, we retired her to the garage for about 10 years until I started driving her again. In 1997, we moved to the beach and that was the end of her. Within two years, the rust was obvious but there wasn’t anything we could do to protect her. We reluctantly sold her to a collector (who really wanted that hardtop) in about 2010. I cried when they towed her away but she had given us many years of enjoyment. Thanks for releasing these memories!

Great review...especially from a guy who was born 20 years after they stopped production! It was cool to see your perspective. It was my first car, a 1971. Fun car...slow as hell by today's standards and virtually no reliability whatsoever. But on a Saturday, with the top down and you were driving along the coast...you felt like a rock star...then it would break, and of course your weekend was ruined.

the brake warning light on the dash isn't to warn that the parking brake is engaged. it's to warn that either the front or rear brakes have lost fluid pressure and have failed. there's a brass PDWA (pressure differential warning actuator) located below the master cylinder where front and rear brake lines are connected.

Enjoyed your review. I had a new 1973 TR6 and loved it. Throaty and fun. I still dream about that car.

The 4 speed is plenty useful coupled with the straight six. You should have tested it on the interstate where you would have seen the lack of a 5th gear does not cause any problems as this car will easily keep up with traffic.

Great video made even greater by the huge smile that the sound of the car gave to you. A HUGE thumbs up.

There’s an rusty tr6 in my town and it’s been sitting there for a while and I might find who owns it and buy and clean it up and restore it to be my car

You have to have a certain passion for old school mechanical cars like the TR6 in order to truly enjoy them. If you want turn key, reliable, AtoB without an hassles, get a Miata.

Hey buddy, I've had both. Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I had a '69 TR-6. I loved it but it spent most of its time in the shop. That's not atypical for British cars. I now own a 2020 Mazda Miata (soft top) that is light years ahead of my old TR-6. The 6-spd manual is really slick. It's way quicker too with 181 HP starting with the 2019 model year. The TR-6 only had ~100 HP. Putting the top up and down with the Miata takes about 10 seconds. You'll never do that with a TR-6 or any 60's to 70's British sports car. You oughta check one out sometime... you'd be surprised. 😉

@@kenster865 nice call....still prefer vintage TR....meant for driving.....no cup holders....no AC...stiff clutch...gearbox.....ive been lucky....75....still original clutch....no electrical issues.....have heard other issues...but in general....the car is easy to work on yourself straight forward......i own 2 toyotas...and have owned...many others....the japanese and reliabilty go hand in hand......if i were 18 today..like in 75...and wanted a sports car.....Miata....slam dunk....most bang fir the buck out there....but a vintage TR...will turn more heads..++++++...the exhaust note...from TR>>>>>>>>>miata....no comparison....
