This race marked one of the very few times when Cale Yarborough made his slingshot move entering turn three on the last lap that the man he passed got back around him, but Al Unser was able to do just that in this race. Of course, the most famous time that happened to Yarborough would occur a little less than seven years later, when Richard Petty beat him back to the caution flag to win the 1984 Firecracker 400. Of course, unlike what happened at Daytona in '84, Yarborough had Al set up perfectly on the last lap, and Al still got back by him after Yarborough used the slingshot to get by him on the final lap.
Damn I miss IROC.......would love to see some F1 guys come over and race Daytona and Talladega in these heavy full body cars. I'm sure Fernando Alonso would love to try it.
Realistically, for New IROC, you're going to have to race between late November and early February when most of the major racing series are in their offseasons. December 5: Las Vegas Motor Speedway (oval) December 12: Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez December 19: Sebring International Raceway December 26: No race due to Christmas January 2, 2022: Daytona oval With this schedule, it will give NASCAR drivers four weeks to rest and recharge for the IROC races while sports car drivers will have four weeks to get ready for the 24 Hours of Daytona after IROC is over. Also, I will consider all the tracks you brought up as well as the following other tracks in places where the December and January average high temperature are at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
