This is a 1974 Porsche 914 with a Targa removable top. The 914 was co-developed with Volkswagen as a Karman Gia replacement and a 912 replacement. Porsche sold this 914 with a flat 6-cylinder engine but it was expensive and only 3300 were sold. Porsche continued on with the 914 with a 4-cylinder VW derived engine and this car quickly became the best selling Porsche model until it was discontinued in 1976. This model is from 1974 and has been lovingly restored and recently had a new 2.36L engine installed with a new clutch, hotter cams, sport exhaust and 140hp.

I absolutely love the 914! My father had a 73 2.0L in green. I have lots of early childhood memories of it. I always wanted one, however the price has more than doubled since Porsche celebrated its 50th birthday back a few years ago. There is something about its design that i just love. The 914 is finally getting the recognition that it deserves. Thank you once again Zack for showcasing such a forgotten Porsche.

Brings back memories for the 1975 914 I purchased in 1981, I absolutely loved driving that car, I found excuses to drive everywhere! They definitely had rust issues, among others, but they were nothing compared to the driving enjoyment, they had incredible handling for a car of that era!

I had a friend who had two of them. One in below average shape and the other... for parts. He spent most of his spare time and money either fixing it (not bettering it) or... explaining to people that it was a Porsche! I absolutely love them, even back then. They had F’n ‘T-ops’, were mid-engine and had pop-up headlights. They don’t look like ANYTHING else. What’s not to love. Thanks for another entertaining video.

I had a 73 1.7 for several years. In Ontario the real challenge was rust and lower body challenges. Mine had the original fuel injection which gave me fits till be found an intermittent wire break at the main connector and once repaired it ran perfectly. The big body issue was rust in the area below the door jam (rear side) where water got trapped and then the body starts to fold. You can tell if the doors are hard to close with the top off. Nothing even today handles like these did. It was a super fun drive even with the small engine as speed was not its forte, but quick handling and a fairly large interior compared to the other sports cars of the day. Finally had to sell it and the new purchaser did a wonderful restoration.

The 914 6 GT won at Le Mans in 1970 beating the other 911s. It got 1st in its class and crossed the line in 6th place overall. The mid engine design was never given the credit it should have got. I loved the targa top that stowed in the rear trunk, and only took up an inch or so of rear trunk space. That was a clever design that was both practical and fun.

I've always liked the 914. It's a while since i've seen one on the road. It's always a decision whether to keep it original or to update it. Even at the time they weren't fast cars (0-60 in 12 seconds). In 2021 that's glacial.

@broeheem2804
@broeheem2804 2 года назад
One of the reasons for the "dogleg" was it's ability to shift between 2nd and 3rd gear quickly, which made it a blast on winding mountain roads..... where 1st gear doesn't really come into play.

@@broeheem2804 That was the intent, but it didn't work out that way. The Porsche design synchros are crap. They can't be shifted as fast as the Borg Warner type synchros that all other cars use.

I didn’t enjoy owning mine too expensive to take to Porche dealer. In 70’s $300 every trip to shop. It would run even 4 cyl., 140 mph. Cornered like it was on rails. Chevy Camaro would out run it all day long.

Classic car enthusiasts, we need to fight against the upcoming bans on oil powered cars coming into the US and in the EU. Here's what one guy from Germany is already saying: " Schlipperschlopper Schlipperschlopper 2 months ago Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars, trucks and busses including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. They even plan to reduce the pump speed of public gas stations from 20 litre per minute to only 2 litre per minute to punish owners of combustion cars....from 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a completely new kind of crime here in Germany, called emissions and smoke crime. :-(((("
