As requested, a load in the 1977 General Electric washer. The machine is out in the garage and gets put into service only during high lint washes or when I have something oily or greasy I want to keep away from the new washer inside. This load had a bath mat in it and made the suspension complain but it never went off balance.

Filter-flos have been and probably will be some of my favorite types of washers ever

I think the old top-loaders are better than the newer pieces of junk they have today

im confused. what is special about it? i feel like these videos are more about the vintage aspect than any superiority. like it's just a spinning thing that moves back and forth.. is there more to it? im trying to understand. maybe it's because i use something similar but it doesnt have the vintage aesthetics. but otherwise, it's a plain lg top load with agitator, and doesnt have the bells and whistles electronics. is that what it's about?

Nothing beats the rapid back and forth sound of a GE Filter Flo activator. Brings back alot of childhood memories and reminds me how fascinated I was with washing machines.

Manning Taylor omg i know! That's what brought me here. My washing machine just bit the dust and had to buy a new one. I was thinking when i was doing research that i didnt remember them all being so damn slow! Even the new one i bought with agitator isn't fast like this one! We had this machine when i was a kid and i remember that big filter thing that went on top and you put powder detergent in it. Lol What did it do anyway

Lennox, the filter pan was to filter out lint as it was pumping water through it. These washers were among the best that GE ever made. And if they ever brought these back brand new, with same quality, I’d go buy 3 tomorrow. I miss these.

This was the very washer that my parents owned when I was born. This was the one where I first discovered a washer then. I remember being fascinated by that rapid back and forth motion of that agitator. I also remember the washer shaking so much at one time because of the imbalance that occurred sometimes that I used to be afraid it was going to shake the house down.

I certainly prefer using refurbished older washers!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have this identical machine it was also bought in 1977 in Tennessee, now its in Illinois, I'd know that agitator and control panel anywhere. It was left to me by my aunt and its still going. Just this year I made the first repairs to it, and if it hadn't been for Ebay I never would have found the parts. My outer tub is starting to rust at the top so I bought a new Speed Queen which is also an excellent washer, much better than todays HE junk. But Ill still keep my aunts old Filterflo going as long as I can, its a heavy duty beast.

I would imagine any reputable washer repair person would have access to old-stock parts, so long as you can provide the machine's serial number. This happened with my '83 Filter Flo. The repair guy found a replacement water pump and drain hose, and with some slight modifications, made them fit nicely. It still works to this day.

this is a great washer of that era. You should have GE make these again next month. Do a full cycle video of it washing a spread with a half load of whites.

I'm wary of washing whites in it because the garage doesn't have hot water but next time I get some rags I can do it.

I have this exact model washer, still going and only now after 40 years constant use it finally needed some reasonable repairs - superb reliability if you ask me, try and get anything today to last as long and work as well as these machines did. One thing to watch with these washer is off balance loads, it will pull the lower tub seal boot off its lip drain the tub and flood the area - this is what happened to mine as I had more than a few off balance loads, my fault. I could have just reinstalled the tub boot as it had not torn, but a new one was only $16 so I replaced it along with a new drive belt ($5.00) new water pump ($20), lower transmission oil seal ($10) and a change of transmission gear oil to higher quality synthetic while I was there. I also have a new two speed clutch in stock if mine quits. These washers were extremely well built and very serviceable but parts are getting very scarce. Keep it going long as you can, the new ones are lightly built short lived electro whiz garbage compared to these old heavy duty beasts.

i know i recently had my hearing checked and I know i could hear someone in the background shaking and snapping their fingers to the beat of this washer. I sat and laughed through the wash cycle.

I always loved how the transmission shifted from low to high when they first start agitating.

I know the noise you're talking about. It was actually the clutch engaging from gentle into normal speed. It also made that click on the spin when it reached close to top speed. My late grandparents had a machine almost identical to this one that they bought in 1979.

I was more familiar with the "pop pop" sound it made when the spin cycle cut off.

Make sure that you add a spread in the washer with the half load of whites.

joe whoever I'm not sure if it has much value as it's not the most reliable washer, it's cosmetically lacking and it's also rather inefficient.
