This presentation from Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh in 2004 featured interviews of the Pirates players looking back on their 1979 World Series championship season.
HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE OF PLAYING HIGH SCHOOL BALL AT BENEDICTINE HS IN CLEVELAND , OHIO WAY BACK................... WHAT A COOL STORY ON THE HIT MAN .............. HOW HE STUCK WITH IT .................. AND GOT TO THE SHOW
As a kid in the 80s, I ADORED Tim Foli. Being a little guy myself, I loved seeing a major league little guy who had no homerun pop, no baserunning speed, only so-so singles hitting, only so-so fielding........but he was SUPERNATURALLY difficult to strike out!! I knew he was a key player on the '79s Pirates; but even decades later, its thrilling to know that in that '79 post-season, he came to bat 45 times and hit .333 with ZERO strikeouts. So he continued to be the best at what he did in the clutch situation of post-season play. Love him!!!
