Stumbled onto the channel looking for content on first-gens and found a gold mine! Thank you for shooting some in-depth first-gen content, there ain’t much out there. You’ve got a new sub! 👍
Thanks for the awesome content! I have a '79 GS myself. I was planning to do some vacuum hose replacement/rework, and this was very helpful. I ended up removing a lot of items, but I retained functionality for the vacuum advance, vent check valve, idle compensator, and coasting valve. I wanted to say thanks in particular for the note at 7:20 regarding the secondary linkage. I was about to take the car out this morning after completing my vacuum hose rework, and I decided to check that against your video and confirm with the manual. Sure enough, it was in the wrong position and WOW! It's a totally different car! Especially from 4000 RPM on. Being able to keep up with a new Camry never felt so good! Thanks again!
I was wondering why I was watching this when I don't plan on removing the rats nest anytime soon, but then at the end you mentioned the carb secondary linkage and sure enough mine wasn't right, so thanks!
I’m wondering about the throttle cables and the choke and the other cable not sure what the third one does? But I don’t know how to route it I’m not the one who took it apart it seem self explanatory but I still don’t understand do you mind explaining please?
I’m just getting ready to get my 80 going after about 9 years sitting. You make me feel like I could do a lot of the things I need to be done. Thank you. Buuut. Any chance you live in the PNW in case I need some help? 🤔
Ok it looks like the vacuum is hooked up but there is no linkage, so I am assuming it is vacuum operated? Thanks again for getting back to me, This is my first rotary car and am afraid I might blow it up.
what you call the pcv valve at about 1:45 is actually the altitude compensator valve. i broke mine on disasssembly and i think i need to just plug it for the car to run. do you have any experience with that? Also the text around 4:00 about keeing vac advance. are tou referencing the nipples on the throttle spacer or on the oil filter stand? thanks for the info man this is the only vid i can find of vacuum delete info for the 79-80 models
Which ones are you talking about to run for you dizzy advance I've been watching your channel for the last year working on mine and a lot of good info😁
First of all I just want to say thank you for sharing all your knowledge! What do you do with the vacuum advance lines into the distributor? Just cap them?
Thanks, this has been super helpful for me, my '85 which came with an '80 carb and no rats nest when I bought it, has been sitting for 2 years and I barely done any work on it, because I was intimidated by the vacuum setup it needed and wasn't so sure about a vacuum delete. Now this made almost everything clear. I will definitely do the delete, because I don't want to search for the right rats nest to buy (especially now). But for some reason, when I dropped off all of my carb parts to the specialist, the plastic spacer thingy kind of just got lost in the process. Is it 100% necessary to buy the OEM or is there any way around it. Awfully thanks for any response.
I wouldn't cap that at 4:37. That's the bowl vent, I just run a line to the air cleaner to vent. I had weird flooding issues with that capped on a 79 nikki.
Awesome video, I just purchased an 83 that is was converted to an scca race car that I plan to run in the 24 hours of lemons. I noticed my secondary's are not connected and the mechanics for it are removed. Any ideas why? And what do you recommend for a premix? Thanks.
Hello friends I just bought my first Rx7 12a 1979 it is in very good condition, the carburetor vacuum is really necessary, I want to remove it I need help
4:37 DO NOT CAP THAT, you WILL develop hot start flooding/leaks. That hose is pretty much a pressure release line. I capped that and my carb would flood, and i had to rebuild it ( took it to a guy who specializes in Nikki's) he told me that was the reason my carb leaked. I didn't believe him and capped it.. flooded almost immediately, haven't had issues since let that hole breathe.
I'm planning to remove the rats nest in my fb, Do I really need to pull the engine? And wouldn't it be easier to just buy an aftermarket carb without all the rats net stuff
hey man been watching your 12A vids, seems like you know your shit! I have a red '79 my dad bought the year I was born, it's been well taken care of for the most part. The engine has around 120K on it and it's in need of a rebuild. Any chance you wanna do a rebuild for me and put that shiz on the 'Tube? I'll pay obviously, just want someone that really knows their shit workin on my baby!
