I love Cosell and Gifford. Meredith is great too. They really need to... make A.I. holograms of these guys, and have them do all the MNF games now... I think the 70s and 80s were the Golden Age of NFL football.

Nice to watch a game where you can pronounce the players first names

This opening theme was only used for about half of the 1980 season. It would be replaced by a return to the classic them ABC used from 1976-'79 and again in the 1981 season midway through.

I remember those intros, so retro and cool. All that imagination and creativity is gone now.

Sundays , Mondays , later on Thursdays , then playoffs on Saturdays . Then Primetime on ESPN . with Chris Berman . Now I loath Pro football . It's been close to 5 years now since I watched it . This is when these players were Pros !

Onyx1916 These old Broncos are way better than the ones from now but the road uniforms the Broncos used to wear before this with the orange pants were way better.
@PredatorKingdom

@@danyluk1 They're real ugly and played out there so late 90s and I can't believe they haven't updated them by now. They should bring these back but update them and bring back the orange pants for the road games.

Loved those retro intros back then. What has happened to the imagination and creativity of it all?

boy do I miss Howard Cosell--I remember when he was on MNF--you either loved him or you didn't (some people went as far as to turn the audio off their TV's when he came on and got the audio from the Westwood radio network)---Mr. Cosell was an incredibly intelligent and kind man--he was trained as a lawyer and devoted much of his free time to helping charities-including the Boy Scouts of America which was an organization that meant a great deal to him

Great example of the magic that existed between steve grogan and stanley morgan. Morgan was a very underrated receiver, problem was grogan threw far too many interceptions. In game later during this season he threw a half dozen picks against the niners to doom their playoff chances, and this team should have been in the playoffs!

For 35 years I loved the NFL and never missed a game. Now I haven't watched the NFL in 10 years. I simply do not enjoy the visual aspects of the game anymore or the self congratulating players. Today the NFL turns me off in every way possible.

IDK why anyone might have thought Matt Robinson was a good NFL QB to begin with. He was horrendous in College ( 17TD -20INT and 45% passer career in College with significant time in 3 separate seasons )

Later Sullivan and still later Foxboro Stadium before it was torn down two months after the "Tuck Rule" game in the 2001 AFC Divisional Playoff (played in January 2002) was the final game in that stadium.

@@WaltGekko I believe Robert Kraft (the NE owner) bought the team from Victor Kiam (who owned Gillette at one point)--Kraft's wife didn't want him to purchase the team as she felt it was too risky an investment--Kiam was actually going to sell the team to investors in St. Louis who were planning to move the team there-but Kraft outbid them
@WaltGekko

@@bufnyfan1 Yep. It was so funny as in late 1993 (becoming official the following spring), Jeff Lurie bought the Eagles for what at the time was a record purchase price for a pro sports team of $185 Million and was ridiculed for paying such a high price. Of course, the value of pro sports teams have gone through the roof since then and Kraft also had the advantage of building Gillette Stadium (the replacement for Foxboro) for $325 Million, which even in 2001-'02 was relatively cheap for the cost of a new building.

@@WaltGekko Thanks--I live in the Buffalo NY area and the original owner of the Bills-Ralph Wilson spent 25K for an AFL franchise in 1960--by the time he passed away and his widow sold the team to the current owner (Terry Pegula)--the franchise is now worth ~$1.3 billion--and Ralph Wilson was probably the worst owner in NFL history--he meddled in all the team's affairs-the coaching/management positions were nothing more than a revolving door of "Yes" men to Wilson--the only constant in all this mess-has been the fan base which has stayed incredibly loyal to the team through all of the baloney Wilson put them through-I wish the Bills had had solid ownership like the Patriots have (and the Pittsburgh Steelers have in the Rooney family)
