One, it's McGinley, and he's really not all that bad of an actor, despite his reputation for causing some shows to "jump the shark". Further, It's a Living was cancelled by ABC in 1982; it was briefly rerun in syndication before new episodes premiered in first-run syndie in 1985. Ann Jillian did both ABC seasons and the first year in first-run syndication before leaving (due to her cancer treatment), which is when Sheryl Lee Ralph stepped in for her. Oh, and Ron Howard's final season as a Happy Days regular was 1979-80.
Yes, Ron Howard wanted out as a regular on "HAPPY DAYS", because he wanted to concentrate on producing and directing movies. Garry Marshall gave him his blessing, inviting him back on occasion, and appeared during the final season, ending the series in 1984.
