I found this randomly while looking for the sound of a Polo. My father had one (79 I believe) when I grew up and I wanted to hear the sound of it again, it is part of my childhood memories. Even though this is a different car, I couldn't stop watching this video. There is so much pure joy in it!
I had an '80, 'S' model in the states. Fuel injected, with stock Recaro designed seats. It was mars red & that color was fantastic under street lights at night! I love & truly miss this car.
Thanks, very much overlooked cars. I bought a low mile 1980 white U.S. low HP GT model back in 82' that had an overheated engine for $1800, and found a 79's diesel rabbit engine with 5,000 miles for $500 bucks and dropped it in, and found out the performance was about the same. I then Added a Turbo, performance exhaust, adapted a Mercedes 300SD fuel enrichment actuator and bumped up the rev limiter, added methanol20%/80%water injection, 5-speed transmission, lower suspension, some ground effects, and was getting around 100hp, 100mph and 60mpg. I drove for years and 150,000 miles with no issues. Even today it would be a fun and remarkable car.
The 1980 GLi/Gti/Storm Scirocco comes with the 5 speed 1.6 injection engine with 110bhp. (same engine as the Mk1 Golf Gti.) The Storm even with 2 mirrors!
I have a 1983 Mk2 Scirocco (the one you don't like) 99% original and still fantastic to drive. Braided brake hose firmed up the brake peddle. Unfortunately the brake bell cranks in the RHD models cause some inevitable slop in the linkage. Yes, I drive it to nowhere on back roads most days too! Perhaps include some more of the car's history next time. I was surprised to see BRAZIL on the cylinder head for example at 1:18?! I'm not a fan of the resto mod style, pity the original colour was deleted and as for the ride, well, each to their own. So many of these lovely cars have been messed with, that said, he's done a nice job of it at least. 👍
Tell the owner he will have to revert to white and yellow number plates.Cars made before 1st Jan 1980 can only display them now. I was hoping to put them on my 1981 Gti next year but cannot now.😀
