This game was a real punch in the nuts for Chargers fans. It looked like they were Super Bowl bound since the Raiders and Bengals (the teams that eliminated San Diego the two previous years) had lost (Thanks Jets!) and the Chargers had beaten the Dolphins the season before. Kellen Winslow and the Chargers special teams won the Epic in Miami. This time there was no Winslow aside from a few plays since he was injured against the Steelers, and the Dolphins completely dominated on special teams this time around. Fouts was stuck trying to throw into the Killer B's Defense and without Winslow, they put the whammy on Air Coryell.
Back to the early 80s, glad to see uploads from this era and this is one of those all-time games. This was even clearer than the NFL Network broadcasts and the best uploads feature the commercials. Love me some early 80s NFL on NBC football. I really wish this Chargers team faced the 49ers at the Super Bowl, it could've really changed history because I think the Chargers would've won that year.
Finally, a non-90's, 49er-less game! 😉😉 Seriously, I love your channel! I prefer your 70's and 80's uploads, but I watch all of them. I even love the commercials.
Thanks Curtis. The guy I'm doing those Niner games for is doing ME a favor by providing me the best possible Niner game sources from 81-94 to have at the ready for future enhancements
@@TheShootingShark I understand that and Thank You for supporting this channel!! People send all these old NFL games to Dave Volsky and we are fortunate to see them!!
It's pretty crazy how quickly that team changed from a running-and-defense one to Marino-Duper-Clayton being the primary focus. Ditto for Woodley starting in the Super Bowl to being benched only a half-season later.
They had 30 minute pregame shows on NBC and CBS and I NEVER remember saying to myself, "Boy, I wish these pregame shows were 3 hours long!" They got everything I needed in a half an hour.
Thank you so much!!!!! Amazing!!! You are a great person!! This is one of my fav games of all time!!! May your kindness return upon you triple times!!!!
Thanks Dave Great stuff as always!!!! Got a kick out of Len Berman saying welcome to the AFC Super Bowl Tournament :) Due to the strike in 1982 and expanding the amount of teams in the playoffs they didn't know what to call the early rounds.
Ah, yes the Dan Fouts final playoff game. FIVE interceptions, a resounding defeat, never to play a playoff game again and retired after '87. No way he was stealing a playoff game in Miami two years in a row......and he lost to David Woodley. Oh, the horror!
The "Rematch" after strike robbed us of a regular season matchup....hard to live up to a classic. They gave it a shot to better or equal the "Epic in Miami". Great choice. I gotta get some of that 'magic' "Old Spice"
Awesome as usual Dave !!! I do have a question : Is there a copy of that Jets @ Raiders playoff game ??….. I looked for probably 15 years - keep Up the great work
@@davevolskysbackdoor5673: Well thats sad : I do have a question- is there anyway I could get a copy from you ? I’d be willing to compensate you ….. however I will understand if you said no Thanks for ALL the enhancements!! Keep it up
@@davevolskysbackdoor5673 ; oh man that’s fantastic - I really appreciate it. I’m working remotely currently: not the greatest service ( I’m surprised these are going through) so once I’m back near civilization I will definitely Thank you Dave !
Miami proved that the 41-38 OT win by SD was a fluke. SD got literally every break and Miami spotted them a 24-0 lead. This time Miami got the 24-0 and buried SD.
Wouldn't be able to because it is already up on the NFL RU-vid channel and it would get blocked for copyright -- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DHHyJsVIF6Q.html&pp=ygUaMTk4MSBhZmMgY2hhbXBpb25zaGlwIGdhbWU%3D
