We will rebuild the rear master cylinder and the rear brake caliper from my 1982 Honda Goldwing GL1100 in this video. Breaking down the master cylinder and caliper, cleaning and then rebuilding with new seals and other parts.
Excellent videos on both the front and rear calipers! You saved me tons of frustration. I appreciate your expertise and your sharing your experience with the rest of us. Keep up the good work!
Ray, tuned in for the M/C but have done those pistons before. It is best to use a shim of wood to prevent them from unevenly popping out. If one comes out getting the other one out is a giant PIA. The wood stops it just before it completely exits and you can then use the air pressure to nudge em evenly to be able to pop em out both at the same time.....in the perfect world I suppose. Anyway mine were rather crusty like your'n and that's what I did. (the wood goes across em both AND I USED WOODEN SHIMS, meaning the pistons were barely in the bore and easily removed) Mine were very crusty on the inside and under the seals in the channels. I had to use a scotchbrite dremel wheel after sonic cleaning to removed all that crud and even a pick tool in the corner grooves. But the brakes WORK GREAT now.....Brake fluid on the seals before inserting eases the pain....
Enjoyed the break down on this rear caliper. They get ultra crusty over time. Surprised you didn't break the glaze off those old pads before reinstalling them
Your videos are super. Best on Wings by far. What rebuild kit did you buy? Oh wait, I have a ‘86 1200. Im rebuilding the rear master and the caliper. Sitting for 16 years & plunger did not come out. Need the o ring kit for the caliper too. Thanks keep making videos.
Very informative thank you for sharing. I am doing the exact job as we speak, the snap ring is stuck and my snap ring plier broke 😔. May I ask what is the size of you ultrasonic cleaner?
Great video. I am checking my 89 gl1500 rear brake caliper soon. Do you happen to know what type of dremel brush that was? I don’t want to accidentally grind out the caliper.
Love your videos, just recently acquired a 1982 GL1100Goldwing interstate, and will be rebuilding the front and rear calipers. What size ultrasonic cleaner do you have and do you add a cleaning agent of some sort to the water?
I think mine is around three gallon. I have tried several cleaners and I think I like using simple green but I only add about a pint and rest water. Make sure you rinse all parts coming out of the cleaner thoroughly with warm water right after you take them out. Thank you for watching.
Questionn, going thru a 82 gl1100 and when i drained coolant not much came out. but when i filled . its leaking on top of left side head but cant see where its coming from.
I just picked one on Ebay that had good reviews. There is water and Suzuki wash in it right now. I have tried other solutions as well. Thank you for watching.
The master cylinder rebuild kit is from K&L supply part number 32-4271. I ordered it from Western Powersports which has it listed as part number 232-1100 through Donnell's Motorcycles in Independence, MO. Thank you for watchng.
Really most of it. The ignition system is a bit different and the front brakes are single piston but most of everything covered will be similar. Thank you for watching.
