What a beauty! That's the bike I wanted to ride across country in 1981. But I was a poor college student and couldn't afford a new one. So I bought a 1978 used Honda Hawk 400 instead. It got me there and back. I saw lots of these and the old BMW flat engine bikes out on the long road. I don't have the itch to buy a GL500 anymore but it would be fun to ride one and see if it was everything I thought it was.
I also had an 82 Silverwing, a black one. I sold it when I met my future ex-wife. Anyway, my Silverwing had a conversion kit that makes it possible to install both the rear seat and the large trunk in the back at the same time. This made the bike into a two-seater with a large trunk. I don't known if this is something that you can still find or not, but mine had it, and it was a nice addition.
Just bought one and got rid of my over rated B.M.W. 1200 G.S. Hope to be riding this for a good few years not too heavy plenty of grunt low enough for both feet on the ground plenty of storage space and several options on seating what more could you want Simple to work on and very very very reliable not like the over rated German crap !!!!!!!

I had a 78 cx.but it was stolen. I can't find another one. Retired nap.would like to get a nother one..but I just can't find one like the one you gave.i live in South West mo.
There's one for sale locally, I'm extremely tempted to get it. Anything I should look for when I go chek it out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And great work on that bike! If you so happen to be located on the eastern side of Canada I'd definitely get you to restore it for me!
@@Murphymotorsocala I had a great "across the country" trip on one of those, I loved the seating position, the moderate size, the hi/low gearing...it wasn't until much later I learned how mechanically weird they are, clearly an exception to Honda's usual top-notch engineering. So I probably wouldn't be too surprised to hear what you think about the CB900C ;)
@@Murphymotorsocala In the unlikely event you run out of buyers, or hear of one looking for a new owner, let me know ;) Now that I know how odd a CB900C is, my choices for a "not enormous" tourer from Honda run from a Silverwing to an early Goldwing to an ST1100.... Hope you've got an apprentice to pass on all these excellent mechanical skills to....
