Just a quick walk around of my 1982 K20 Chevy Pickup. Been a year and a half since my Dad and I installed the new 6.5 heads and all is well. No problems, hiccups, leaks nothing but perfection every time. The truck also has a new fuel injection pump, new injectors, timing chain and sprocket, new brakes, shocks, all new see thru fuel lines, new front wheel bearings, new bigger alternator, new starter, new 1000cca batteries, new K&N air filter, new electric fuel pump and lift pump, new radiator, new brake booster assembly, new ignition, 60g glow plugs and some others. I always run a fuel stabilizer like HOTSHOTS EDT since Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel doesn't do any good to these old truck motors. The truck runs perfectly and never misses a beat. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. I get up to 30mpg highway and around 25 city. Those numbers can put any in this same class to shame.

Wow! This is one of the few 6.2L GM Diesels on RU-vid where the "WATER IN FUEL" light is not on.

Keeping them old 6.2 going sounds great!

Heck ya it is. To have something this old, run so good and get 22+ mpg is as good as it gets.

Not sure if you have done it yet but it would be wise to change out the Harmonic balancer for a fluid dampener…I got mine from Leroy Diesel…you will save the block and crank by doing so!

One of the first things I did was swap out my old Balancer before I Turbocharged it. I already know that the stock nodular iron crank is prone to failure if the Balancer goes so wasn't going to take a chance. It definitely helped with creating a smoother running engine throughout the RPM range as it is able to automatically adjust as needed vs stock which cannot.

@@TheAscendedMaster I’ve heard of guys back in the day that bought those trucks brand new and the balancers failed in less than 5000 miles which is crazy…the rubber in them would shrink and get hard and crack within the first year or two…that’s why there were so many low mile failures in the 6.5’s back in the late 90’s…my buddy had a 99 3500 and the engine blew at 35,000 miles…another friend of mine had a 95 and he went through 3 engines all under warranty…insane!…and it was those sinking balancers all along!..that cost GM a pile of money!

How's it start in the winter? I can't get mine to start unless it's plugged in. I changed the glow plugs already but haven't put a new controller in

First Crank and fires right up no problem. Any 6.2 or 6.5 can start like mine but gotta have good fuel pressure, solid batteries and starter, run plugs long enough, make sure cold advance and high idle activates and timing is retarded enough for the cold advance to actually work, good injectors and injection pump and a tight timing chain and you'll never have starting issues.

This video is from awhile back before alot of my upgrades and the truck actually starts and runs 100xs better now than she did then.

Do what exactly? Put 6.5 Heads on?

6.5 heads are a bolt up and go on any 6.2 setup. They have to be heads for the side mount turbo setup .

What kind of MPG do you get?
@TheAscendedMaster
@TheAscendedMaster Год назад
Then 21-31mpg NA, now 11-15mpg Turbocharged. I have my pump maxed out so my fuel economy is trash but the power is a blast. I am turning it down actually next light cycle(day) to help increase my fuel efficiency at the expense of power.
