What a fascinating, impressive man. I was a teenager when he was becoming famous, but at the time I did not understand what I saw or heard. His bravado, just like David Bowie's, opened doors for many. I hope he had many good times in his life, despite the terrible way it ended. This interviewer was a bit rude - referring to Klaus' self-created persona as "clownish" and "mutant." As if he were totally unaware and unfamiliar with the developments of the time. Nomi was clearly an innovator with incredible talent! In 2022, he would have survived the terrible illness that took his life......Such a loss.

Interviewers seem to have been a bit rude about men with particular looks back at the beginning of the 80s in a general manner. I remember Boy George and Culture Club in a talk show, the interviewer destroyed him for like 40 minutes talking about his looks and nothing else. Even though there were glam rock stars like Bowie and Bolan before, I think people were still very posh and conservative. We are a lot more open-minded today (at least I hope so). I like his look, his eyes, his smile..... Nomi style

he was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of his time. He just reminds me of that age-old belief in the entertainment industry, thats says "always remember that someone before you, lit the path that you walk". So, when you see or hear guys like Jimmy Somerville or Boy George, or Pete Burns or even Lil' Nas X..and especially Adam Lambert....just know that, but for Klaus Nomi, Sylvester, David Bowie, and Elton John, we can only imagine how long it would've taken for American society to be ok with incredibly talented men, wearing makeup and flaunting femininity, more than they flaunted masculinity, all while wearing women's clothes.
@jochenstossberg5427
@jochenstossberg5427 Год назад
He wasn't as avante garde as people think. He was just doing what was done in cabaret in Germany in the 1920s and the 1930's. The problem was that as a genuine counter tenor he wasn't very good. Huge influence on others though especially Bowie - who was even more influenced by Anthony Newly, who taught him how to create the illusion he was a much better singer than he actual was.
