Remember hearing this game on SiriusXM and Ernie Harrell saying if the ALCS Game Five would be a 1 PM ET start instead of a prime time game. The reason for that is the night of a possible Game Five there was a presidential debate scheduled between Walter Mondale and Ronald Reagan and ABC felt compelled to show the debate as part of the commitment to public affairs program despite the fact the 1984 presidential race wasn’t much of aa race.

ABC was the network of both LCS in 1984 and the original schedule before the debate had the ALCS game 5 as a prime time game. If course it wasn't needed since the Tigers swept the series in three straight
