Had this car for a week then my father took it out one night and wrecked it. Always wanted another. Now I can start looking after word of an inheritance. I cannot wait! This video brings it all back. I love the 85 vs 86. Carbed and nasty!
A friend of mine had a white bubble window that met its demise by electrical fire.. Very sad... was an all original 50,000 mile car unmolested.. This is by far the finest example of a Capri I have ever seen! Great work!!! I used to have an 82 flat window Capri, and currently have an 89 LX..
Thank you!! It was a fun car to build and drive. Hopefully the new owner is enjoying it. Capri's have always been my favorite of the fox body platform! I'm now enjoying a new ride. Thanks for watching!!
Out of all the cars...this one I do miss, but it help me to buy a GT500. I would never had let myself spend that type of money, unless you can trade up. With that being said...GT500 makes me smile more!!! Thanks for checking out the channel!!!
Awesome year for both Mustangs and Capri's!! Last of the carbs which was a time when cars were a little more simple to work on...Thansk for watching!! Happy we could bring back a great memory!
WOW!...I Too had a 1985 MERCURY Capri RS 5.0L, but mind was Dark Red Metallic with a Dark Gray Bottom Cadding!...Also, the Original Owner had replaced the stock Bubble Glass Hatchback with a 85 Mustang SVO Dual Wing/Spoiler Hatchback!...I am Just Saying!...God Bless America! 😇
Once again, another great build by one of the most talented people I've ever known! Sounds great! I've yet to take a ride in it, but I'll be by soon to get a ride. .
I had a 1984 fuel injected turbo. I am European and knew how to drive it. Added an aftermarket inter cooler before the SVO had it standard. You could play with the turbo lag using the standard transmission. It was sooooo fast!
Thanks! Any fastback looks pretty good from back the early days. You were lucky that these cars weren't all that old. That had to be an awesome time!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your comments. Parts alone, ran roughly 18 grand. You can build it cheaper, but I wanted a 363 which made the build a little more expensive. Thank for watching!
@@mustangmike5324 Mike, thanks for responding. I've always admired the Capris, which had a much more silent creeper appeal to them. Also, do you have any links I can research parts and that engine as well! I don't know much cars beside the basic, maintenance, and how one should drive them.
Late model restoration, American Muscle and CJ Pony parts are just a few of the sites that I use. Many more out there that have the same parts. As far as the engine goes, I got most of the parts from Summit and ebay. You need to know what you can and can't do with engine combos. Sometimes it's best to buy a complete engine or a top end kit. You have to have a good plan for the engine build...hope this helps.
Had 86 ASC Capri convertible 5spd. Charcoal & charcoal & 85 H.0. 5spd. Best time 8.12 et. with slow reaction time, didn’t have a heat blanket for my NOS bottle. The coolest color Colypso Coral red. T-tops
That’s a beautiful Capri. You’re most likely gonna disagree with me but you should put the five liter emblems on the fenders. And put the RS decals back on also. Keep those rare legends as original looking as possible.
Am wanting to make my own, have a lead on a body and an older stang that should be nice for engine and transmission would love your input on this endeavor
@@keithricks3047 that's one of those questions that needs more information. What is the overall goal of the build, how much hp and so on...the best thing for sure...TKO 600 and a 8.8 with a girdle. Whatever engine combo you choose shouldn't break the aforementioned upgrades. Start talking power adders and more may be needed...
I feel the same way...the Capri always looked better IMHO. At one point, I had a 351C in my 82. Did that back in 88 or so. Was a pain because there was no support for that combination. I drove it for a few years that way until I figured out that the small block 302 was better suited in the fox bodied cars. Thanks for checking the channel out!!!
@@mustangmike5324 I subd.. I had a 79 RS when I was 18. Better looking than the mustangs with the better grill/front end, tail lights, and beefed out fenders. If the car should ever come up for sale I wanna know!
sweet! i would love to have one that nice. i never had a capri but i used my little 74 mercury comet to jump start a guys capri years ago. it looked like a turd and he had to sweep the leaves off the hood and windshield. a guy then backed a badass 87ish monte carlo off the trailer as he was going to go to the racetrack later. they lined up about a 1/4 mile up the road at the next driveway and the capri beat him pretty good. the guy said his car was stuck in 2nd gear so they lined up again and the capri beat him again lol
So my dads got one of these and I have recently takin an interest in it but it’s been sitting for something like 15 years so I got my self a project car
I have an 81 Capri RS White w/red interior (RS Badging, etc.) with 12,800 original miles and has been in my garage since 1986. My Dad helped me purchase it brand new off the lot in San Antonio, Texas. I am doing the retromod very much the same set up you have except for the 3:73 rear gear. I too am going ole school with a 289 10:5 compression and reworked heads by my local racing shop. Keeping it low and fast!! You mentioned the wheel size but I don't think you mentioned the tire size for the front and rear. If you could provide that I would certainly appreciate you. Thanks, Lee
That is a great color!! In 2005, Ford brought that color back. Just an awesome color with black accents. Think Ford should bring it back on the S550 chassis...IMHO
I don't have the cam card. Best I member there was three choices at the time and it was the biggest cam and works well because of the stoker crank. It was on a 108 degree lobe center and just shy of .600 lift. Sorry I don't have the parts number. Thanks for watching!!
Had two 86 McLaren capris and want another one cuz I sold the last one in the early nineties.Miss that car everyday would trade my 02 WS6 ramair TA for one.First one was white flipped it 2nd one was candy apple I'm from TN it maybe one of my cars in middle Tennessee
I’m N sumner co. And I had 3 5.0 capris. One 85 GS parts car, 85 Colipso Coral t-top 5spd. NOS lightly drag raced. 8.12 @ Union Hill with slow reaction time. So 7.90 was more likely…and as well I had a 86 ASC convertible cobra5spd swapped. Holley system one lower intake, Accell distributor & BO3 camshaft. My convertible had been fixed pretty well after a crash I don’t have any details about. Also the 5spd had been fixed from fender binder.
Hello Gray Hair Garage..Wonderful video and discussion on your Mecury Capri. The car is beautiful ...Do you have a number for the Dodge White color you used and which FR 500 you used?
Thanks for watching...I'll get back to you on the color code. The wheels are 18" staggered and were purchased from LMR. The wheels fit a 94-04 Mustang. You will need a 5 lug conversion from the SN 95 for the fronts. The wheels will not fit 93 and earlier conversions.
@@mustangmike5324 Okay, cool..Thanks for the speedy reply...I have an 81 I recently purchased..I have a 79 that I gave to my brother that I still have but it will cost way to much money to restore..I see you are in Atl area, I also live in the metro Atl area..How could I reach you by another form of contact other than RU-vid?
The color is bright white and it was used from 1988-2014. I couldnt read the number, but this should be enough info to get that color in any brand. Not sure on how to contact. We check this pretty often, but no other social media. Hope this helps...
Cheers from Mexico, I have one same model like you, but here in Mexico called Mustang burbuja ( not Capri) 1984 the engine is a 302 5.0 carburator, what modifications I will need do in order to hear the same fabulous exhaust sounds!, Beautiful car!!
Howdy!😀 The Capri did sound nasty! The cam that was in that car was from Lunati(Voodoo series). It's a roller cam. I'm pretty sure in 84 they were flat tapped cams. Sound of an engine depends on many factors. The exhaust was flow master, but your cam choice will give the thump. My personal advice would be...don't go into a perfectly good running engine. Only make changes unless you have too. Some cam changes require spring changes, plus breaking in a flat tappet cam can cause troubles you don't want if done improperly. Thanks for watching the channel!!
@@karenm6914 Thanks for your kind words. Rich and are having fun and trying to share a little knowledge as we go along. Thanks for watching! Check us out on GHG Facebook
I remember the late 70's, when most Ford products were labeled as sh*t; I'll never forget the first 69 GTO owner came into the bar with his head hanging down because an 81' fox body just shut him down... DAMN.. From there, it's ON! (But what do we do with the 500hp Hondas And Toyota Supras?)
That a great question, but I really don't worry about that as I've gotten older. I'll leave that to the younger folks. I just want them to sound and look bada$$!! More power...more problems!! Thanks for watching!!
Not sure on that, as I have never put the car on a dyno. A guess, would be the engine puts out around 425 hp, but that's just a guess...Thanks for watching!!
Quite well...when you have a pretty good size cam, think get a little wierd. You can change the mechanical advance in the bottom of ford distributors to get about 6 more degrees. Thanks for watching!!
While I've been pretty fast in that car, just don't know how fast. 85mph speedo was something Ford did that baffled me. Thanks for checking out the channel!!
