Hi Zack. New sub here who never subscribes to anyone but I just had to for your channel. You deserve 10 times the subsribers you have. Just wanted to give you props for a great channel and thank you for your amazing catalog of unpretentious, interesting car reviews. Your style is very relaxed and simple, and your open-mindedness toward all types of cars is appreciated. I have recently become a little addicted to watching car reviews on You Tube. Started 1st with RCR, and he's pretty good, but his pseudo intellectual rants have grown tiresome, especially recently. De muro gets his hands on the coolest cars but he grates on my nerves after a while. My current favorites are you and throttle house. Keep up the good work!
I'm sitting here watching this with my wife, a self-professed old soul. She exclaimed,"What is he 75 years old?" "I think he's 23. Definitely under 25," I replied back to her. "Now that I see his face. I remember thinking he was an old soul." In conclusion, keep up the good work. You actually got a comment out of my wife while watching this review of a true piece of sh** from the 80's era of cars. Bravo👏
Iv always liked these non Mustang Foxbodys especially this specific era with the Marquis and LTD..Why?? Because these were the cars that GTA VC used as the cop and taxi vehicles in the game. Not only that but 80s and 90s Fords iv always had a soft spot for. Great review.
Actually all 3.8 V6's got throttle body injection from 1984 onward regardless of transmission. They made 120 HP and 205 torque. It was the 1983 LTD and Marquis that had a carburetor on the 3.8 Essex V6.
I'm surprised these are mostly forgotten. It's a Fox body so anything you can do to a Mustang you can do to one of these. I'd love a powerful V8 wagon I can put my whole family in. It looks comfortable and luxurious in an 80s land yacht way. As someone else said, this was competing with the Taurus & Sable which looked and drove like they came from 10 years in the future. You know what they say about Florida: if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes. I love old things, especially ones that look like they have a story. Where has this Marquis been? Who drove it? What has it carried? We should remember how things used to be and appreciate it. Jay Leno has said that he buys a car for its story as much as for the car itself. The future is nice but that's no reason to disregard the past.
There's something about the fox body, panther mash ups Ford slapped together back then to make the midsize cars relate to the full size sedans. You have some that will look at it like, "Yeah, this little car just shows how crappy the big ones really are." Then you have those that say, "This little car shows how great they were compared to the big ones." And they really were great in their own way. They all were! The cookie cutter parts bin cars from back then gave the industry consistency! And that's what's missing from a lot of modern cars.
Your comments at the end of the video made me sit up and listen before playing it again. So many see the past with Rose Color Glasses, but you added in the honesty and admitted how time can ease some of the pain from before. I always say that you can never go home again, because the magic is in the memories you made. Finally bravo for saying it was a simpler time in the 80s, no it really had its own challenges but memories and the power of our human brain can forget some of the pain but let all the good things remain always within us. I guess you did grow up in the 1980s with me and all my good friends. You understand things and see things as someone who has lived many good lives and I am impressed. (Thank your passenger in the car today for staying so quiet and still while you made the video. )
Imagine how many things it would fill in a car nuts life if it had a roller cam 351w, 6 speed manual transmission and 4.10 ratio Cobra IRS. Add a performance front suspension and brakes with 5 bolt hubs and wheels. Around the year 1999 I had 9 vehicles,, all of them needing repairs and a guy I knew offered to give me a running and driving 1984 LTD LX and stupid me I turned it down. Palm slap to my forehead.
Amazing video man👌. You know I feel like back in the 80's people were nicer and things were simpler. But we're here in 2023 and we just gotta see what the future holds
My dad got the sedan version of this car(same paint/interior) in early 1985. In August we drove it from CA to OR/WA and back. First time I ever got to see my pops "relaxed" on a business trip, first time he gave me complete freedom at the hotels we stayed at while he worked. Met a few girls along the way, stole a few kisses, caught a 39in steelhead on the Columbia, and basically had the best summer of my life. The '85 Marquis will always symbolize that glorious time for me.
I used to be really into the *Grand* Marquis (Panther platform) scene and for a while really wanted a Colony Park wagon. Almost forgot about its Fox body little brother.
That's a Fox Body. Nearly every go-fast-goodie that fits on a Fox Body Mustang is a bolt-on. All that needs is a 351 and a 5-speed, and it's the ultimate family hauler.
Wow this car review went so meta. I lived as a kid thought the entire 80s decade and I do think it was a better time. Sure bad things happened in the US and around the world as they always do. But my dad was a teacher owned a nice house, had four nice cars, raised 4 kids as a single parent and still left enough money for each of them to (help) pay for college. There was an accessible middle class and lots of great car choices at reasonable prices. Hondas were king. Nissans were cheap and boxy but good and very affordable.
New Sub from the UK. Loving your videos of cars we never saw here. I would a bit longer on the exterior but that's a personal preference. Keep up the great work.
How interesting, the turn signal and wiper arms were the same as my '84 Bronco II and the gauge cluster has similar design elements to my '89 Grand Marquis that I used to own way back in the 90s. The Marquis Wagon looks a bit larger than my parents Ford Fairmont station wagon that we had in the early 80s. Thinking of nostalgia.........cable television and overnight television was better back then. You could find the more eclectic and odd programming overnight that never saw the light of day, yet, it was funny and entertaining, compared to the overnight sanitized programming repeated from earlier in the day or that is all paid sales programming. I was just remarking to a friend that shows like USA Up All Night and the $1.98 Beauty Pageant could never find a cable channel home today.
@@danielcamacho6123 Is there some rule that if you're Puerto Rican you must hang the flag from your mirror? If I see a flag hanging from a mirror, 100% of the time it's Puerto Rico's.
My Dad had a 1982 Mercury Cougar Wagon so basically the same car. At the time it was decent car with comfortable ride, but by the time the Ford Taurus came out in 1986 it was hopelessly outdated. In comparison, the Taurus wagon had a much more powerful engine that was also more fuel efficient. I remembered every time I hit that bridge going to Galveston Island, Texas, it was time to cut off life support and 100% power to the V6 warp drive. If I floor it early enough, I could maintain 50 mph on the top of the bridge. Compared to my 1982 Chrysler LeBaron, the K Car had it beat in everything: Better handling, faster acceleration, better suspension, stronger sheet metal, better paint job. As much fond memories I had with this car, yeah it was bad even by mid 80s standards.
What was the engine in the Cougar? Because if it was this V6, it's actually not terribly different from the one in the Taurus. The Taurus just had multiport injection and an extra 20 hp.
@@ImmortanDan it was the V6. I don't remember the HP ratings, but I do remembered the driving experience was day and night, especially going uphill. I never had to shut off the AC in the Taurus just to squeeze some more power, or floor it just to maintain 50 mph. Maybe the tranny or axle was different, I don't know.
