Was watching this game in a bar in Newport R.I. with my girlfriend. At the time we were active skydivers and had jumped at various airports throughout the northeast. When the guy landed and turned briefly towards the camera, we both recognized him. "That's Sergio!" I yelled to the crowd, who looked at me like I was crazy. Mike Sergio spent about two months in jail for contempt for not naming the pilot of the plane that flew him over the busiest air traffic control sector in the world. BTW, I know who the pilot is, and even jumped out of that very same plane a few years earlier. Statute of limitations has passed, so they can't arrest me.

Here is part of the entry.... "Sergio spent a short time in jail because he would not reveal the name of the pilot who flew him over Queens that evening. Senator Al D'Amato later intervened on his behalf, and Sergio was released".

I was at this game and I was responsible for the camera guy getting that shot. I was sitting in the last seat in the last row in the upper right deck. As I was sitting there, a cameraman knelt besides me in the aisle. As he was filming, I noticed something in the sky. As it got closer I could see the parachutist getting closer. I tapped the cameraman on the shoulder. He got annoyed and made a gesture for me to leave him alone. I insisted and yelled to him, "there's a guy parachuting into the stadium!!". He finally turned and got the shot you see here.

It kinda poetic that this Mets fan parachuted down while Buckner was at bat considering what would happen about 9 innings later and how the series eventually concluded. It's like the parachuter was a harbinger of ill fortune for Mr. Buckner.

Oh please blame the coach for pulling Clemens, and Stanley and Shiraldi for blowing Game 6. The game was already tied, and if you watch the replay even if Buckner fielded it Mookie beats either Buckner or the pitcher to the bag. One of the most ridiculous things ever is blaming Buckner for that loss. Stanley and Shiraldi were pathetic at best out there.
@johnp82
@johnp82 3 года назад
@@MM-yn9db there were a lot of contributing factors, but if he doesnt make that error the game continuesso I wouldn't call it rediculous. Whats rediculous is calling the manager a coach.
@MM-yn9db
@MM-yn9db 3 года назад
@@johnp82 They were done. Period. And another thing ridiculous is calling McNamara a manager, or my error using coach. Clemens was pitching great, including 1-2-3 in the 7th, and McNamara pulls him in the 8th? Doesn't even let him face one batter? That's called "mismanaging". The big play was Kevin Mitchell going to 3rd on Knights's single. Then he scored on the wild pitch, and Knight went to second on that pathetic pitch by Stanley. Huge play. And you blame Buckner??? Buckner is #4 on the blame list, yet NO ONE talks about the top 3 that blew the game. Get some perspective please, Buckner was a great player and a class act and did NOT deserve the abuse he got.
@johnp82
@johnp82 3 года назад
@@MM-yn9db First of all, calm down. How is Buckner #4 on the blame list? The other errors and mistakes in the game didn't lose the game. Buckner's error directly lost the game. And McNamara is a manager, that's not rediculous.

I read this guy Sergio ended up serving six months . Not for the stunt itself but because he wouldn’t rat out the pilot.

i miss the 80's. Poor dude would have been leveled by 2 security guards and escorted out by 8 police officers in 2023 for that stunt.

Irony that the batter at the plate (Bill Buckner) would be involved in the play that later decided the game.

Like everyone else said, this was definitely a different era. Nowadays, the networks probably would’ve cut to commercial and this guy would’ve been tackled and very physically arrested. I like how everyone cheers and the cops simply escort him off the field. No harm done. Play ball.
