Imagine taking charges in an All Star Game. Imagine multiple people fouling out due to their defensive effort in an All Star Game.
That not only sounds strange, it sounds like an alternate universe compared to today.
This is a long one, but I am leaving town so this is the last one for a while, I hope you can make it through the whole thing.
00 Some old clips to set the tone.
40 Begin showing 2024 All Star clips
15. If you are smiling and hugging every time you miss, do you care about winning the game? If you don't care about winning the game, is the game important? Sure, it's OK to smile and have fun, but the real question is whether there is any competitive edge or caring about who comes out on top. If the game doesn't matter, what do we care who is on the court? If the guys on court aren't trying, what does it matter if they are the best? You aren't watching the best show what they are capable of, you're watching what the best not giving a shit looks like.
00 Stop pretending this is limited to the All Star Game. The All Star game is just a more extreme version of what we are now also seeing in the regular season.
09 You can't talk about All Star appearances nor All Star MVPs when comparing the resumes of past and present players. It doesn't mean the same thing. It's not the same game. I mean it is truly a different game now.
40 Put the G League in. Or a high school team. Anyone willing to compete. Because if these guys aren't trying hard against each other it might as well be anyone else. It is not a big deal to make a no look pass or dunk the ball even for many junior high kids. What makes it a big deal is if you do it against the best who are trying to stop you.
00 This was the three point contest part 2, except at a much slower pace.
32 The fans treat them like Gods, then they pull this lazy shit. Enough with the false God worship.
29 The dunk contest featured dunks that tried, and failed, to be as good as the plumbers of old.
15 Revisiting LeBron's excuse for not entering the dunk contest.
20 LeBron missed every shot he took except his dunks/layups.
36 The best in the game are afraid of competition?
22 Haliburton wanted MVP? MVP of what? A game that's a joke? The MVP just indicates who the most selfish player is since there is no defense and the guys who chuck up shots win. LeBron made his bid, but blew his own chances.
26 MSP - Further proving my point about the Most Selfish Player award, Damian Lillard won. He took the most shots on his team, but had a significantly lower shooting percentage than several other players. Didn't matter. He won. Again, considering there was no defense this award simply shows who felt the most full of themselves that day.
20 Lillard winning MVP is a reflection of how the NBA has treated LeBron. Reward centered game play. Forgiving / ignoring that he doesn't play defense tells the people at home that defense is not important.
00 Adam Silver DOES NOT GET IT. He keeps rewarding bad behavior...giving incentives to spoiled brats hoping that more toys will get them to stop being brats.
