Oh my.... This is the game I traveled to and watched at the Three River Stadium to see Steelers and Joe Montana. I moved to Chicago after the game and watched another opening game at Soldier Field, Monday Night played by the latest two Superbowl champs, Giants and Bears. The following week, I was at Anaheim Stadium to see Eric Dickerson. The 8 days span was the most excited days in my entire life :)

2:21:44….Jerry Rice scores the first of what would be a record-setting 22 receiving touchdowns in 1987. That record would stand for the next 20 years until Randy Moss broke it with 23 in 2007.

This would the last time the 49ers would lose by more than a possession on the road until Week 9 of the '92 season.

As great as the 49ers were under Bill Walsh in the 1980's, the Steelers always seemed to rise to these occasional matchups. 1984 was a prime example when the Steelers handed the eventual Super Bowl Champions their only loss of that season. Maybe Chuck Noll knew Bill Walsh's tendencies? Well, considering that Bill Walsh was an assistant for the Steelers' arch rivals in Cincinnati back in the early-to-mid-70's, that could very well be.

Steelers are also Joe Montana's favorite team growing up.

Dang! 1:01:18 to 1:01:33 …… Jim Lampley throwing some serious shade at Ken Stabler! And then Stabler waits for the perfect opportunity to give it back at 1:22:40 to 1:22:49…😆😆😆

No idea, commercials were already edited out of it and I haven't viewed the whole video to see if there's a station identification.

After all Joe did they let Steve young prowl the sidelines like a buzzard waiting for Joe to go down. A joke, Joe is and always will be the 49ers.

Couldn’t agree more. That was Walsh’s thing though. To stoke competition. For as brilliant as he was, I never agreed with this aspect of his coaching. IMO the whole team paid the price when it backfired during the 87 playoff game vs the Vikings. Montana was playing to keep his job and it showed. Then pulling him mid game for Young was the nail in the coffin. How many games did Montana play where the offense flopped until halftime or the 3rd quarter even? Only to click when it mattered most? Such a shame.

ESPN shouldnt have used him as their first sideline reporter when the NFL allowed sideline reporters in 1994 either.

Believe it or not, this was NOT his worst game of 1987. The very next week against Cleveland, he was 12 of 36, for 151 yards, and 5 interceptions in a 34-10 loss. He had a 7.8 QB rating for that game. In this game, he had a 49.7 QB rating.
