Well, I got back form Denver and a random "No Start" became an issue. Circumstances had the van sitting for a couple of weeks.... Check out the video to hear the whole scenario.
Big thanks to the Toyota van peeps online. Lots of help out there from a great community of van enthusiasts.
The coil Pack I used is an NGK from Rock Auto. Part # 48783 U1087
Check out Toyotavantech.com for a ton of van info and direction.
Also the Facebook Toyota Van group at- / 52191869582
Thanks for watching. :)

Thanks for this. I was happy to find this video to see what's involved in removing the engine service hole cover! (That’s what they call it in the service manual!) I was surprised that I needed to do this to remove the distributor cap! Wasn't that bad. And I was able to leave all the cables attached since I only needed to slide the cover a few inches to gain the access I needed.

Thanks for your informative vids, I just completed the coil swap. Avoided breaking the terminals on tightening thanks to you. (Plastic dust cover did snap upon removal, got a new one plus distro cap gasket on the way.) Oh and I used your thermostat and housing video to success a couple years ago. I'm definitely the type who needs visual aids.

I just bought an 88' that will turn over good, but won't spark. Your channel here is so good dude. I'm betting I have the same problem. I already ordered a coil & will be swapping it out soon. Thanks for the video 👏

I have a 92 Geo Prizm (Toyota Sprinter AKA AE90 around the world). I rebuilt the distributor with new oil seals but used the factory coil pack. That's the same coil pack in 4afe engine. Oh.. I bought the diaphragm attached to intake that control the AC for my 4AFE and yes, it worked!

That's excellent! Glad it worked out!

Wow, I love to watch your Toyota Van video. It reminds me of that time when my father had the crazy idea to buy a 1988. He thought it would be great to carry the family (four children). Well, his Toyota Van never had the chance to carry all of us since my oldest sister got an apartment two years later. He kept it anyway but after, a few years, he sold it because simple jobs were always complicated with the engine under the seat.

Love hearing your story. Thanks so much for sharing. It's amazing how many folks have these vans in their family history. Thanks for watching. :)

Me personally if i didnt have another coil like your situation id just solder a wire to the broken stud then connect the wire with a plug or solder and heat shrink it.

Hey Aaron, awesome video as always. What were your symptoms initially before it stopped starting all together? Would it give you trouble starting and then run ok?

I wish I'd had some warning, but it was actually more like a spontaneous failure after sitting for a couple of weeks. (I just barely got home from the airport 45 min away). Then once it sat for another week while I recouped it was totally done. Thanks for watching and the nice comment.

I am pretty sure that the construction of new parts (even Denso) are nowhere as good as the Toyota factory OEM parts. That is why the fastener broke. The factory coil on my 88 Toyota had the nut so very tight that I had to use a 3/8 ratchet to take it off. The factory part was still good and only needed reconditioning. Nothing broke and I put it back together with only about half the in/lbs that it came off with.

Agreed. I wish we could still get those original parts for sure!

Hi there. Thanks for checking out the video. I have a feeling I might be doing the timing chain sometime soon and the distributor will definitely be a part of that project. I'm sure I'll have to adjust the timing when I get into it. So keep an eye out. :)

Good evening it's me peter again you know what can cause Myspace cruiser to jump each time I put it into gear to move off and I change the transmission oil but when I start to put it into gear it it jumps what's the cause of that can you help thanks again

Hi there Peter. My van is a manual transmission and I experienced something similar when I would pull out in the lower gears. Upon close inspection I found that my rear main seal was leaking oil badly on the clutch plate and flywheel. It would cause it to slip before I warmed up the system and it’d get burned off. It kept doing this until it got to the point where it wouldn’t engage. So I tore it apart and found that was the issue. I’m not sure if that’s exactly what your problem might be. But it is a possibility.

@GraeSkyeStudio

Hi there. Mine has a small black lever on the center console just below the parking brake lever. Just pull up on that black lever and it’ll pop the fuel door open.

the terminals don't need to be torqued that much. Hand tight is sufficient

I just got and 88 LE 4cyl toyota van, I'm trying to find the fuse box ?
@GraeSkyeStudio

Congrats on the van!! Look tucked under the glovebox in the passenger footwell. It’s got a cover that snaps off. There’s also a few main big fuses against the inner firewall in the engine bay under the passenger seat. Accessible by the trap doors under the carpet front passenger seat side.

Don't see why you can't use an extractor to remove the broken bolt, then transfer over a good bolt from your old coil.
@GraeSkyeStudio
@GraeSkyeStudio Год назад
I wish that’d be possible. But it looks to be actually melded into the plastic and resin. Good suggestion though. I should take it apart and see how it’s connected internally.
