Best thing about having a rubbish memory is that you can watch these races 20-yrs later and have no idea what the result is going to be! Great to hear Barry Sheene commentating
I remember original video had a clear shot of Gardner punting chili off blaming his ribs he always bitched saying Rainey had all the luck, I bet he`d like to take that one back
Modern broadcasting should make it mandatory to have an ex-rider with a colorful personality for analysis. Barry was awesome. Guys like Edwards, Fogarty, Schwantz or Rainey would be great today. Crafar is getting better.
At that time, the most powerful in the 500cc class made ~165 b.h.p at the wheel. In '93, Honda made a development motor grossing almost 200 b.h.p but it was never used as it was too much for the cycle parts to cope with.
Love hearing Darrell Eastlake and Barry Sheene commentating on a 500cc race, even though I wasn't around back then. It's a shame that there aren't too many races online featuring their commentary.
Eddie Lawson for me.... but Schwanz was the real deal... good ol'days of the two smokers :-) Those things would take your head off if you loose your concentration or worst, get too excited...
Thank God for the rain. It made a runaway follow the leader race with intervals into a great race. Headline from the Misano Times; Rainey Reigns in the Rain!
Come non faccio a parlare di Monza c abito a 2 passi il Nazioni per L ‘ultima volta il 24 maggio 87 Reggiani in pole nella duecinquanta che gara!alla fine il vecchio Tony mise tutti in riga
All the way up until 2002, when races got stopped and re-started, the results were done on aggregate times. Rainey had a two second lead from the first race and and was close enough in the second race to win. That's also why Gardner was second on the track in the final run, but ended up in fourth and off the podium.
Storiche anche le prime vittorie di Aprilia 1987 e Chili nel caos sciopero 2 anni dopo per non dire della volata Cadalora Bradl e la capocciata d Sakata nell ‘ultimo anno di questa configurazione del tracciato
I've always wondered could a two stroke motor be built to compete with today's 800cc 240-60 horsepower GP bikes..? How about an 800cc fuel injected two stroke V-4..?
Hey Brum, thanks for your input! I'd love to see a head to head match up on a track say Jerez and see who could set the fastest lap... It would be incredible to see what Mick Doohan's '95 Honda could do on modern tire technology! and carbon fiber body parts and maybe even the wheels!!! Would be a nice dream...:)
MotoGP bikes are 1000cc since 2012. 1000cc two stroke even a 800cc two stroke without electronic aids would be suicide to ride, and if they had the electronics to make them ridable the electronics would probably make it as docile like as 4 stroke litre bike (with electronic aids) anyway. However, the two stroke would be lighter.
LOL! No wonder! Those things had shit tires (compared to now) and were really "dangerous". Your wrist was connected to a "bomb" appropriately called a big bang engine... those things would get around 4.500/5.000 rpm and just exploded under your ass and tried to get away from you while you were still on them... they were tip towing with lean angle and throttle the whole time. So stiff sounds just right...
