I’m a HUGE Patriot’s fan, have been since 1975. But thanks for this. You take the good with the bad as a fan of your team, and I remember that season like it was yesterday. As a Patriot’s fan who lives in NY, I still got that special feeling when I got to see my Pats on TV. Even during 1-15 & 2-14 seasons. Stuck with my team and the rewarded me with 20 years of greatness and 6 Championships. Always stick with your team. Of course it always helps when you have a great owner, great coach and had the GOAT QB.
I was at the Redskins game with my father...Foxboro Stadium was literally a funeral parlor from 1989-1992. The lighting on the screen need not be adjusted as that place was dark, dismal and depressing especially during the late fall afternoon games.
2Phaktor Luckily I was too young back then to suffer the misery my father did. 10 years from now with Belichick, Brady amd Kraft all retired is going to SUCK
Remember watching that game on CBS. The pregame had a story on the Lisa Olson controversy, and my takeaway was of an interview with Zeke Mowatt that simply led to him not answering questions. Just an ugly situation.
John Nguyen They used their number 1 picks on OL three times under Belichick. Borderline hall of famer Logan Mankins, currebt tackle Nate Solder and...Adrian Klemm but he was a 2nd rounder (no 1st rounder in 00). Harlow tho.....ugh
Oh, and they found time to sexually harass Lisa Olson, a Boston Globe reporter, which then-owner Victor Kiam made worse by coming to their defense... Yeah, this team was REALLY bad--at least they eventually improved and became multiple Super Bowl winners...
I ceased being a Patriots fan when Parcells left. I was a fan of the team when Grogan and Francis were on the team and even beyond into the Eason /Flutie and QB by committee years. 1978 - 96 ...were the years I put in...And you know .. they really weren't as bad as everyone said they were. From 1977 forward, they more often than not put a competitive team on the field. They just could never get over the hump. The stadium was always half empty because this place is not a football town; it's all about baseball. It doesn't look that way now but watch; as the Pats fade into oblivion ( we can all hope) the stadium will go back to being a graveyard for the drunk and stupid. Anyway ,with the Pats, there was always a coach being fired or some fucking drug scandal that would interrupt their season. When Kraft bought the team I had a hard time rooting for the them. That guy just flat out sucks; when he pulled that shit in Hartford holding the Commonwealth of Massachusetts hostage for his playground for the football team, I jumped ship.
I remember watching Super Bowl XXIII and Dick Enberg said "John Stephens felt that Ickey Woods should have won Rookie of the Year". John died about 10 years ago in a car accident. His daughter, Sloane Stephens, is a tennis player that won the 2017 US Open women's singles title.
