These basses are super cheap still and are truly fantastic. The Super Ferrite pickups are some of the best single coils I've ever heard. They're thick and punchy, neck pickup is deep and the bridge is burpy, but still beefy. Fairly low noise for single coils too! Great for recording, or live use - I'll be using it mostly for recording.
Build quality is solid, wiring is clean, and it plays real nice. It's not the most beautiful axe, so at some point I may re-finish with a more interesting paint job.
If you can find one somewhere (with the Super Ferrites) I highly recommend this one! Definitely punches far above its weight class.

Thank you for this demo! I have an old Peavey Patriot bass with just one super ferrite pickup. I love how that one sounds, but I’ve never been able to put my hands on an old Foundation with the two pickups. I’d love to scoop one up while they’re still affordable.

I have a '91 Peavey Foundation with Rotosound flats and love it. What strings are you using? Thank you.

Great video! I just picked up a 93 foundation that was in terrible shape. Super ferrites are still working but the pots are beyond saving. What type of .47uf cap did you use? The dub sound is awesome and ideal for my band. Thanks!

When cleaned up, they are absolute keepers! I usually use mojotone yellow caps, or paper in oil for more retro sounds, but tbh any type works!

These have always been a great option. The earliest ones unfortunately use the old peavey truss rod that needs the special wrench. After having owned perhaps 100 of these, Dyna Basses, Forum, and Fury basses, I can say the later models are even better (but don't look as cool). They tend to have fewer quirks and oddball issues, however- the last of the USA model versions of these did not have the bi-laminated neck. The bi-laminated neck was a Peavey feature from the earliest days and was later licensed to G&L to use. It's a better neck and you can identify it by the two pieces used to make the neck.

I think mine has the weird truss rod- but I love the neck on this one!
