Vesta loves to lead and if she doesnt get the lead she begins to pout 😊 but oh bwoy fanna was just the best 🎉 keep them coming Rohan we really appreciate you
Vestia and Tai Fu Chieh. Some real classics. I didn't even know who had won the 2000 Guineas Trial that year and once I heard the name Tai Fu Chieh early I knew he would be the winner.
@astonlawrence4785 thanks again for being a part of the vintage racing channel. Please continue to share. Hopefully that race and others soon. Thank you.
In his time, Winston "Fanna" Griffiths, OD - proved far beyond the shadow of any doubt that he may not have been the most skillful, instead a renowned critical thinker with a very tiny few comparisons in an ELITE group of Jamaica's jockeys. His significant milestones were achieved the good old-fashioned way, through HARD WORK. No short cuts. He KNEW how to win stakes (grade 1) races.
A massive happy new year Rohan, with you opening your account for 2023 shows it’s gonna be a breath taking year of Jamaican racing history. Salutations 💯
Most people don't know that Fanna was confused as to who to choose in the Derby that year between Vestia and Tai Fu Chieh. Vestia was unbeaten going into the Derby and ran 2:07.3 in the Oaks (Fanna aboard) in her Derby prep, whilst Tai Fu Chieh's prep saw him running 2:09.4 in the Governor's Cup beating Q.W.I. (K. Brown) and stable companion The Exterminator (Bimbo), winning by a neck in a thrilling finish. From what I heard, Fanna wanted to ride Tai Fu Chieh (the gelding) in the Derby because he didn't want to repeat the same mistake when choosing Fire In Yu Wire over Legal Light in the '77 Derby, but in the end chose Vestia upon Feanny's persuasion. Trainer Adin Williams, who was Feanny's "head stable lad" at the time was furious at him for leaving the rail open coming into the home turn but those in the know knew that he was dead focus on "riding" Bimbo aboard Tai Fu Chieh, who he took wide approaching the quarter bend and that apparently cost her the race knowing Restless Babe was a renown rail horse and wouldn't have passed her on the outside.
Thanks for that inside info fam, I was undecided myself on who I thought the legend should ride, but I agree with admin Williams if fanna had not gone wide I think he would have won myself. Blessings fam 💯
@oerlous jack fantastic distinctly did say he wanted to ride the filly after he rode Tia Fu chieh in the Govenors Cup ....I remember that clearly when he wad interviewed by Lance Whittaker who at that time was working at Rjr....
@@phillipjacobs2758 Yes but after watching the video he said her tail was spinning too much, which usually is a sign of stress and in his mind he was saying she might not get the trip.
@perolousjack .....Mr .Jack after the St. Leger victory Philip Feany and Fantastic both agreed that the Derby exposed Vestias stamina limitations just like wjat you said....fantastic even said the St. Leger is a different distance and even with interference she won even when Restless Babe got the inside run .....so even if fantastic held Vestia off the pace or lead in the derby or even stepped off the rails to thwart Tao fu Chiehs challenge maybe it would have been a closer finish....but who knows ....only the racing God knows...we are seeing tiny men maneuvering 1600 pounds of equine flesh within seconds or minutes....just never know ..horse racing is a uncertainty
@@phillipjacobs2758 I agree it’s not so easy manoeuvring horses in a race and even the best jockeys mis-times or make a mistake in a race that costs them the win. But the best jockeys are those who make the least mistakes 💯

@@richardknight1258 100% that was vestia second time running the first 2 race of her career is Percy Williams win on her first time going 51/2 furlong in 1:04:3 then come back and win this race in 1:23:2 for 7 furlong I was right at the track fence watching this race
@@richardknight1258 Yep it was definitely Percy Williams. Type in "past winners of thornbird stakes" and look at the Quickgallop page in the results, you'll see the winning riders/connections.
