In Part 1, Weather threatening, and birds chirping away, I'm helping out a friend by getting his old Jeep Cherokee ready for one more Southern Vermont winter. (It probably only has one more year left to it) I removed a really rusty and stuck hub bolt using an inexpensive, rounded fastener extraction kit. I break down the entire assembly and prepare everything for the new parts. In this part, I install the new stub shaft universal joint and the wheel bearing hub assembly. Fairly easy job for "Out in the Field".

I do most, if not all repairs, with tools that I carry around in my overloaded 1997 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. I perform "On-Site" braking and suspension repairs, amongst other diagnostics and services. My tools consist mostly of Craftsman, a few Stanley, Snap-On, Husky, Pittsburgh, and S&K tools. Scan tools include hand held Actrons, DVOMs, and test lights. I also currently use a Zurich ZR Pro, for advanced and bidirectional diagnostics as well as a Snap-On Verus Pro, for more detailed diagnostics. I'm always expanding my collection, based on need and convenience.

Ah the never changing sounds... although the birds (headphones make them MUCH more noticeable) definitely change up the metallic sounds....

Great job Charlie! Seeing you bolting that hub in place with the backing plate still lying on the ground reminded me of yesterday's exercise. I had to clean out the carburetor on our generator. I slid the carb in place, installed the back part of the air filter housing, and threaded the retaining nuts in place. As I was about to sinch the nuts down with the ratchet, I look over and see the metal retaining plate sitting on the tailgate. I had to remove the nuts, install the plate, and start again. We love our job so much we do it twice! 🤣🤣

Good job, but you need to invest in a torque wrench.

I do currently own and use 3 different size/range click-type torque wrenches. I tend to use them with TTY bolts, when fastening into Aluminum where/when torque is critical, and when clamping forces are important. Most others fall into a "common sense" / experience category.

My impact has been misbehaving. It's 10 years old. I'm considering a slightly stronger version, as a replacement.
