The 1997 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor Chronicles - The Steering Gear
In this video I swap out the old original steering gear, for a new, exact match, year specific steering gear. This is an installment to the 1997 CVPI Chronicles.
As part of an ongoing "project gone south, deep rabbit hole style" I'm taking care of a much needed Steering Gear Replacement. While this steering gear might look like a normal steering gear, it turns out that THIS steering gear is unique to the 1997 Interceptor. Apparently it has the strongest internal tortion bar of all of that vintage. I acquired this steering gear from a Genuine Ford Parts store in Virginia, on my way back to Massachusetts From South Carolina. Even though it was pricey, it was only 1 of a dozen or so left in the country, so I drove a bit out of the way to get it, due to the seriousness of this steering issue. This gear , unfortunately was mistakenly blamed for the steering problem that turned out to be the intermediate shaft (a different video in this playlist, when released)

I do most, if not all repairs, with tools that I carry around in my overloaded 1997 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. I perform "On-Site" braking and suspension repairs, amongst other diagnostics and services. My tools consist mostly of Craftsman, a few Stanley, Snap-On, Husky, Pittsburgh, and S&K tools. Scan tools include hand held Actrons, DVOMs, and test lights. I also currently use a Zurich ZR Pro, for advanced and bidirectional diagnostics as well as a Snap-On Verus Pro, for more detailed diagnostics. I'm always expanding my collection, based on need and convenience.
