Although nobody knew it at the time, this would turn out to be not only the final win for Davey Allison, but the final top 3 for 1992 Winston Cup champion Alan Kulwicki
That last lap crash happened over 20 seconds after Allison had taken the checkered flag, about the same amount of time it took to complete a full lap at Richmond in 1993. I'm not sure if I've ever seen one with that much of a delay after the official end of the race. That's the sort of thing that should probably encourage drivers to keep their window nets up during a victory lap in case you run into someone else's mess on the cool down lap.
@@robertanderson2898 imagine if Davey Allison, Tim Richmond and Alan Kulwicki didn’t die, Earnhardt probably wouldn’t have 7 championships and Gordon might not have 4
1993 and the beginning of a new era in NASCAR. No Richard Petty on track. New full time names like Jeff Gordon and Bobby Labonte. The loss of the reigning champion and the man many tipped to be a champion. And names like Earnhardt, Wallace, Waltrip, Elliott, Gant, Rudd, Bodine and even Kyle Petty were now the veterans.
On March 8, 1993, Davey Allison won his 19th and Final NASCAR Cup Series Victory at the 1993 Pontiac Excitement 400 at the Richmond International Raceway for Robert Yates Racing with sponsorship from Texaco Havoline. The 3rd NASCAR on GMA race of 1993 race was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc. and aired live, nationwide, and via-satellite on the GMA Rainbow Satellite Television Network with a radio simulcast on DZBB Radyo Bisig Bayan 594 and Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM
