Thanks for the informative vid. I have the same bike same paint and year just trying to figure out what’s going on with the way it’s running and wasn’t sure the best way to pull the carbs. 😎👍. Going to look for part 2 now

Please add a light rewire video! I have this exact model of bike, but they got "creative" with the wiring, including putting new rear turnsignals on, and wiring them through the rear fender. I need a miracle or instruction, if not both.

An entire video on a wiring harness is not really feasible nor advisable due to the risk of fire if not done properly. That being said, here's a tip, the rear turn signal/taillight harness is a separate harness from the main one and can be purchased from Honda and plugged in as long as they didn't cut the plug off. You will have to contact a Honda dealer for the part number, you will not find sub-harnesses listed in the regular parts breakdown.

Personally, I seldom do any night riding ... I find the factory lighting on my 2004 Shadow Spirit to be adequate for Suburban lighted streets. I am considering going LED with the turn signals however for greater safety. Should be no additional wiring with that. I would avoid adding lights because it may kill your battery and or stator prematurely. Most shade tree mechanic folks do amateurish jobs on wire routing and connecting anyway and that could be problematic.

Very suspenseful. I thought you were going to shove that screwdriver through your wrist while breaking some of those screws loose.

It can get sketchy at times and sometimes injuries are involved, but it's a risk we accept on a daily basis to get the units repaired and back to work. Thanks for watching!

I matched this ..had a few problems hope you can get back to me though this is old 1- Air vent tube between carbs was disconnected and it says its a California emissions part 2- i didnt roll the bolts back on the cables to take em out i just removed the plate with the 2 phillips screws and slid the cables off any issues here? 3- A few screws got stripped so i was told 4x10 and 4x16 metric screws should i go straight Oem i replace just 2 with local hardware screws but fitment and size matched ..head was just a lil bigger 4- I didnt split my carbs cause i was told syncing carbs is not a job for rookies..but have one of those screws stripped too but recommendation for removal aren't wise. I have same make and model i just dont know where that air vent tube between carbs connects. I have service manual too. Thanks for your time sir.
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC 3 года назад
As far as the vent tube goes, you should have an offset plastic "tee" fitting that pushes into both carbs then a single vent hose attaches to that. If you were able to remove the throttle plate that holds the cables that's fine. We normally run into those screws being damaged, plus I like to confirm the cable condition, so we remove them. No problem swapping screws, glad you found them locally. If you didn't split the carbs, you "might" be OK on the sync, the linkages do wear over time and can lose sync by themselves, sync isn't critical per se, but it does affect starting and idling if it's very far off.

@@JWSRepairServiceLLC The air vent piece between the carbs moves just a lil up and down not much..is that normal?

@@natesilva3232 I'm not 100% sure of what you mean, when you say "air vent" , are you talking about the slides that are in the center of the carbs? If not, I have no idea what you are referring to as moving up and down a little. If you are referring to the slides in the center of the carbs, those should open fully under wide open throttle.

I'm not sure what you mean by "nick bike" but I will say that what you are describing is nearly always caused by a bad side stand safety switch.

@@JWSRepairServiceLLC currently removing a set for cleaning for a customer now and what a task. Id like to put the gages on to balance them afterwards but that looks nearly impossible. Ive ran bikes with their fuel tanks sitting beside them before doing up to 4 carbs together but i could actually get to them half decent to do so. Frame tube is the intake tube. WTF. LOL!

Can I buy new carbs for this bike? I’ve been shopping and can’t find originals because of the year & due to the condition of the bike I’m assuming they’re gunna be beyond repair but if I wanted to replace them completely is there a company that would sell a brand universal to this make and model?
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC Год назад
I know of NO reputable company that sells reproductions for these carbs. that being said, beyond rebuilding? If the aluminum castings, body/bowl, are intact, a kit will repair most issues, if the rubber diaphragms are deteriorated, there are multiple companies that will sell you replacements. There really is no reason you can't rebuild what you have as long as there isn't any physical damage to the hard parts. Good luck, Thanks for watching!!

My vacuum piston diaphragms from my VT1100 ACE are all cracked up and need to be replaced. OEM are just crazy expensive. Do you have any suggestions?
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC 3 года назад
There are a couple of companies out there that sell just the rubber diaphragms. Keep in mind, the slides weren't designed to have replaceable diaphragms so installation of the new ones can be tricky. One of the companies is carburetordiaphragms.com. Take your time and good luck! Thanks for watching!

How do you get the cap off the mixture screw? Will plain old carb cleaner affect the rubber O-ring if I leave it in?
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC 3 года назад
You must drill through the aluminum cap just far enough that it that the bit goes through the cap but not into the brass adjustment screw underneath it. You can then thread in a coarse thread metal screw and pry the cap out. Then you will be able to access the mixture screw underneath. Thanks for watching!

Im curious as to how much you charge for a job like this? I've got a 97 that I'd like to do this to in the near future and wondering if I should try to attempt it myself or just bring it in and pay if it wont break the bank

Our flat rate labor charge for these is $350, our shop rate is $70 per hour. Parts and supplies along with no "surprises" would mean an out the door price of about $425-$450.
