This marked -The first ever playoff win for the Carolina Panthers -The final playoff win for the Carolina Panthers until 2003 (ironically against the Cowboys at home as well) -The first of just two home playoff victories in the divisional round for the Carolina Panthers -The first and last playoff appearance for Dom Capers as a NFL head coach -The first and last playoff win for Dom Capers as a NFL head coach -The last divisional round playoff appearance for the Dallas Cowboys until 2007 -The final playoff game for Barry Switzer as a NFL head coach
this was the offical end of the "dynasty". i watched this game and was sooo mad at how the Cowboys had so many opportunities but couldn't capitalize and Troy played horrible smh
Both those teams were also injury depleted all season, especially Dallas. No Jay Novacek, Leon Lett, Charles Haley, Brock Marion, Michael Irvin missed first five games of season and was hurt early in this game, then Deion was hurt. Hard to win a playoff game missing half a dozen pro bowl starters.
@@Speegs23 Look how many key players the Eagles lost during their SB run ,great teams win games, sorry teams find excuses. Dallas has been doing that for over 25yrs now.
Hearing Pat Summerall & John Madden….MANNNNNN….that reminds me of my childhood, playing the 1st and 2nd Madden game that came out for PS1 😭 😭 😭 Damn time flew by sooooo fast 🥴
If Jimmy was on the sidelines, this would have turned out differently, as Dallas would have rolled through Carolina and Green Bay and would have blown out New England for their 6th consecutive Super Bowl!
Pat Terrell making an interception- college football fans probably remember him for him knocking down a 2 point conversion in the 1988 Miami/Notre Dame game
@@BigDaddy-vh5jv Switzer won the SB in 95'. Lost to an absolutely loaded 94' Niners team (self inflicted loss Aikman pick 6, Irvin/Williams fumbles) Cowboys also limped into that game with a bunch of injuries. In 96' we were a healthy Irvin away from going back to the NFC Championship. Mind you that was with no Novacek, Haley, Marion or Lett.
No, this game for sure was the end. I was 11 years old and I remember leaving my uncles and riding home with my dad and him saying Dallas was done. History proved him right.
Aikman has always been overrated. Put him on the Buccaneers, Browns or Bengals in the 90's and he's a journeyman qb. That line and receive corps were on another level. Anybody could have destroyed. Aikman had 165 tds and 141 interceptions. He was an average qb at best.
Deion got took out on that reverse when they fell on him. Any offense was taken out and there was no room to make that many mistakes. The whole season went that way.
This Panthers team and the 2003 team were the best Panthers teams. Either team would have beaten the 15 Panthers team. The 96 Panthers had the misfortune to run into Brett Favre and the Packers in their prime.
I remember 1995 because as a Raider fan Raiders came back home to Oakland, also the NFL has new teams- expansion teams Jags and Panths. I remember wanting the Jags and Panthers go further into the post season mix in '96. Anybody else remember that?
I think we need no more AFC NFC crap, that should've went out clear back in 74. the North South East and West. And move Dallas to the southern conference. 9 teams per division. It would make the game so much better. Add 2 games, bring the other meaningless first 4 games in to the season. Watching the improved more competitive NFL would be Glorious.
The Cowboys had stomped the Vikings, in the previous weeks wild card game; but they would not win another playoff game for 13 long years, until 2009. This playoff game was the beginning of that dubious streak.
Panthers red zone defense won this game. How many Dallas highlights ended with them kicking FGs? Also, wth is up with the turf at BOA, er, Ericsson Stadium?
Carolina was kicking several field goals too, but Dallas failing to score touchdowns in the red zone and those 3 picks from Aikman is what cost them the game. Sad to watch the Dallas dynasty deflated flat here, and basically has changed VERY LITTLE ever since!
Cowboys fan for life. I hated watching this game for many reasons but I have to give credit to Carolinas Defense in this game. They played great albeit against an in injury depleted Cowboys team, I remember having this feeling going into this game thinking Carolina is better than we think. This is definitely a great game for an expansion team to win I'm the playoffs. The main reason I hated this game is cuz it ended Michael Irvins career and the dynasty. But hat's off to Carolina for a great victory.
this was another great Cowboys loss. Made even sweeter because Switzer was shooting off his mouth about do they even have to show up in Carolina. And Dallas players were saying where is Carolina? They found out lol
OH Man,I remember that well !! And then after the game thay were interveiwing a panther player and he said DO you know where Charlotte NC is now Barry switzer????
Switzer was pure box office the perfect Cowboys coach. Dallas was so reliant on Irvin in 96'. 9-2 with him and 2-3 without him. When he got hurt they were going to need the defense to hold Carolina to 14 points or under. The D played well but couldn't force FG's a couple of times which was crucial.
I wouldn't say spanked but most likely win a tight game. They were 9-2 with Irvin in 96 and 2-3 without him. You can make a strong argument he was the MVP in the league that year.
@@navynugget7 take Irvin away (like he was taken away in this game) and maybe. Dallas was also missing Novacek - 2 key components. That next year in 1997, dallas was a complete notch below the 1996 team.
@@SoundOfWhiteNoise1 that packers team was too good in 96, Dallas was at the end of the road by then. Injuries are just excuses, GB went without their top 3 pass catchers too for a good portion of the year and still went 13-3.
And in the Texans' FIRST-ever game, no less!! David Carr had a very solid game that day. (Carr was the Texans' first-ever draft pick and the first and only Fresno State Bulldog to go first overall.)
