Rest In Peace to two of the greatest football announcers of all time and the voices of my childhood. Madden and Summerall you will be missed. We were so lucky to have you while we did.
This was the 3rd playoff game I took my mother to , each playoff game we went to the Cowboys won my mother was so very happy. Great times, great memories with Mom, just Priceless to me. Thank you Cowboys
I know man you can just feel the heart and soul and passion these Cowboys players had on this team, maybe one day they will get back to their glory days I remember this game like it was yesterday getting goosebumps from just looking back and reminiscing
@@bfer95GB led into the fourth quarter and then Dallas started chopping-blocking GB offensive linemen - one so egregious it ended Jon Jurkovic’s career and directly resulted in rule changes. 2024 was a fun result, but I’m still bitter - and will forever be - at the outcome of that game nearly 30 years ago. GB was robbed multiple times there - look at the PI they called whenever Ervin couldn’t come up with a sideline catch - I got sick of watching it. Back when Jones had ‘new money’ influence on the game… Anyway it all eventually turned out for the best for both teams, and I enjoy watching the matchups these days.
Been watching these highlights from the three Cowboys SB years, and I never realized how big Larry Brown played in all these playoff games. He won the MVP picking off O'Donnell twice, but he got his hands on a lot of other passes during this dominant playoff run. People act like the SB performance was a fluke, but he came up big a lot.
The 1995 playoffs were actually pretty entertaining. The biggest shocker of that postseason was seeing the 5th seeded Colts team win in San Diego in the Wild Card Round, win in Kansas City in the Divisional Round, only to lose in the AFC Championship at Pittsburgh. A 3 seeded Packers team winning at home vs Atlanta in the Wild Card Round, winning at San Francisco in the Divisional Round nearly beating Dallas in Dallas in a classic for the NFC Championship. And The Dallas Cowboys, a team that had played just terrible in December, finally turned it on at the right time and won it all.
Earlier in his career, Bill abates endured the tough times with the Cowboys. He was a tough, hard nosed guy, who took whatever role was handed to him and did his best. So glad he was around to enjoy those championships.
He’s a big reason why it was so difficult to run inside the tackles against the Cowboys. Lett and Russell Maryland were a dominant force at defensive tackle
Such a Nice Man! He used to come to My T-Mobile Store, Back in 2004/2005! He Loved the Black Berry Phones, but didnt know how to use them! I used to show him a bit! Very Respectful! (Dressed up as a Cowboy, Jeans, Cowboy Hat, and All! ( The 1st time I looked at his account and saw his name, I asked him, are you the Dallas Cowboy Leon Lett! HE REPLIED, "I've been accused of that, a time or two!" lol ( HUGE MAN!) ( I was like , IT HAS TO BE HIM!) lol
Dallas got lucky that GB knocked out SF. SF couldnt buy a win against GB in those days. SF had beaten Dallas twice in a row. Dallas totally owned GB, beating them twice in 93, 94, 95. It was a triangle. The AFC was so weak in those days and all 3 of these teams would win it all if they could just avoid the one team that gave them problems.
@@suave_d this reminds me of the Chiefs recent SB win..this was the worst of the 3 SB winning teams..have no idea how Mahomes pulled it off with that WR core...
@@guyincognito320AFC was weak, but Pittsburgh was better than buffalo, the bills had their chance in 90, but the Giants played a perfect game, if they had won that game they'd have a better chance against Washington the next year.
Funny how the pack block the punt and pat says the niners come after it. 3 years of 9ers cowboys championships had him so used to it being those teams. Rip pat and john the best ever to do it.
@@greganderson1445 Cowboys probably wont see past the divisional round until Jerry Jones dies...Dallas could have won at least 1 more SB had he not ran off Jimmy Johnson
90’s cowboys was such a force; as a niners fans who was never closer to 1,000 miles from Dallas in the entire 90’s they still effected every aspect of my social life in elementary school.
Yes, many all time Greats, including the man with the most rings, Charles Haley. He talked a lot of trash, but I applaud him for taking Leon Lett under his guidance and helping the Big Cat contribute to the Cowboys dynasty of that era.
It's because Jerry wrongly focussed all of his cap on skill positions. Would have been better off maintaining the team depth and OL. Could have been competitive for the whole decade.
Summerall and Madden were the gold standard of sports broadcasting. You could be watching a game between two teams with double digit losses on their record, but if by some chance Madden and Summerall were in the booth calling the action, it still felt like the biggest game on the planet for that week.
Yup, exact opposites. Troy was a very good QB, but he elevated his play in the big games. Stat Pre$cott piles up the numbers against mediocre opponents and absolutely implodes in big games.
As a.diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan. I respected this Dallas cowboys team. They played as a team, they didn't care who got the credit or the stats and they were there for each other whenever they were down or made a bad play they always had each other's backs. And they were great leaders and great teammates.
You can't own the Minister of Defense and Gilbert Brown who was a Hulk on defense. But they were solid in pushing the Packers D. Although the Packers D did much better than the sleep-walking Buffalo Bills D in both Superbowls with the Dallas Cowboys.
@@matthewowen4508 Erik Williams was the one of the few OL who did what he had to do in order to protect his QB. Clean or dirty, Williams would use any tactic to keep the DL at bay. Most teams wish they had five guys like him blocking all the time.
I think the fans knew that this would be the last hurrah for the 90's dynasty. Injuries and legal troubles were starting to pile up. Besides, I believe the fans were a lot more confident playing the Packers instead of the 49ers.
that old stadium, like many overall, was a respectable home... now the Cowboys have a third of the seats occupied by visitor fans when other maajor fanbases play them (San Francisco does this often, this would never happen in Irving)
Texas stadium felt a true Dallas Cowboys stadium the atmosphere and the fans screaming, AT&T stadium feels nothing like that, it’s a basically a tourist destination 👎🏽
This matchup was a letdown for a lot of football fans back then because everyone wanted the fourth consecutive 49ers/Cowboys NFC championship. But Green Bay surprised people and played so well that even though they lost they instantly became the favorite to win it all the following season, which they fulfilled.
Green Bay were good in the mid 90's cause of favre he was back to back mvp those yrs and won superbowl 31 against the pats but lost the next superbowl against the Broncos.
@@Tainopisno1 Favre was MVP three times in a row as a matter of fact (95, 96, 97). But it wasn't only him. The team was very complete and well balanced. Reggie White on defense, Mike Holmgren on the sideline, Ron Wolf and Bob Harlan on the front office, Green Bay was well ran on the overall aspect, after a very bad pair of decades in the 70's and 80's
When the Packers won it all in '96 they had the #1 offense, #1 defense, and the GOAT season for a return man on special teams. They won all of their playoff games by at least 2 touchdowns. One of the most underrated-dominant teams in the Super Bowl era.
@@drewdrewski4188 I believe (could be wrong) that the '96 Packers were the last NFL team to date to have both the most points scored and the fewest points allowed in the same season.
The second Dallas TD was a beauty. Aikman threw it where he knew Irvine would know to come back and get it, but the DB would not. Almost certainly something they had practiced beforehand many times.
Cowboys don't get enough credit for this win because It wasn't the 49'ers they beat. Packers were great and it's nonsense people act like the Cowboys got a bye week before the SB.
The Packers absolutely spanked the 49ers too, it wasn't a fluky win. As they would prove in both of the following postseasons after this one when they easily handled SF.
@@drewdrewski4188 I recall seeing how the Packers secondary manhandled the 49ers receivers in that game. Never let them get a clean release and threw the timing of that offense completely off. That, plus losing Ricky Watters to the Eagles ended their run. Didn't quite work out against Dallas because Irvin was a beast, and the O-line cleared massive holes for Emmitt. Also, Favre in Texas Stadium was not good. Go Cowboys!
I disagree. GB played pretty damn well. Back then it was next to impossible just to compete in that stadium let alone have a chance to win; the Packers did both.
Which is funny because the Cowboys had played them the previous 3 conference championships and were the better team each time despite 2 of those games being on the road.
Entertaining game, two very good teams going all out for the Superbowl... Would have loved to see the Cowboys play at Lambeau the following year, but as soon as Dallas lost the Divisional Round, you knew the Pack had it in the bag that year... This game was as close as the Pack ever came to unseating the Cowboys at Texas Stadium, and it was a classic game indeed...
Sadly, both John Madden and Pat Summerall are not going to be alive right here on earth in the year 2022. They will call the Arizona Cardinals vs. Dallas Cowboys game from way up in heaven in 2022. May they both rest in peace, amen.
That's why Emmitt Smith broke down when he mentioned Moose in his Hall of Fame speech. He knew how much Moose sacrificed his body in order for Emmitt and the team to have success. Class act, both players.
Used to love it when they every once in a while would drop a pass to Moose in the flat, and he'd get a nice gainer out of it. Caught the D sleeping then and again.
As a Cowboys fan, we NEED this type of Cowboy fever that's been missing on the field for over two decades. This game versus the Packers at the time was truly unforgettable.
Man this shhhhh got my spirit moved in a beautiful place.i was a teenager in love with the game of football and everything about it including commentary
Feels like each decade of these broadcasts has its own unique vibe to it, 80s 90s 2000s 2010s etc... it's like you can almost sense that that game belongs to that decade. I dunno how to describe it lol.
No shit but bulls won 3 more championships then the cowboys early 90s them late 90s and bulls coulda had 2 more titles I the 90s if jordan didn't retire in those 2 yrs of 1993 94 and 1994 95 or even 98 n 99 and cowboys could had 2 more titles if jj didn't leave the team cause of Jerry Jones ego control mentality and packers got in the cowboys way to in the late 90s.
One of the most underrated playoff games. You never hear much about this game, but it was a great one. Remember watching it live, and going nuts when Larry Brown picked Favre.
It’s funny that Favre was so horrible against the Cowboys and great against the 49ers and Rodgers owned the Cowboys and played horrible against the 49ers.
One thing I love about watching old football footage (college or pro) is listening to the great voices of the past: Summerall, Madden, Enberg, Whitaker, Criqui, Jackson, Lundquist and oh so.many more.
When it comes to sports - is there anything better than an iconic opening to a big game - perfectly scored music, the voice of a beloved announcer telling us the stakes, mixed with historic footage and sound... sets the stage, you are the audience - makes you wish (at least me) you could line up with these teams, knuckle for knuckle, crashing into one another to achieve the ultimate win for a chance to win the ultimate prize. 🏈🏆
Michael Irvin was obnoxious. He won three Super Bowls. He was a perennial pro bowler. An all-pro. Yet, he's somehow underrated. I'm an Eagles fan. I love that the Cowboys haven't been to an NFC Championship game since this one. I HATE the Cowboys. Irvin should be mentioned with the greatest receivers ever. He's not usually. He's usually talked about in that next tier of great receivers. I'm here to tell you that's stupid.
@@otaviofrn_adv Thug is just another version of the "N" word. Anyway, it's true that Irvin was an obnoxious a*shole in his playing days but he's admitted that. He hasn't been that way in a long time.
I was 11 when this game aired. Still have the VHS I recorded it on. What an incredible year to love America's team. Lots of memories from this season, this game in particular. Watched it so many times afterwards!
The Dallas Cowboys are the #1 reason Brett Farve only won one Super Bowl! Dallas owned the Packers! Farve never beat Dallas in Dallas, playoffs or reg season!
As someone who grew up in Phx the fact that Sun Devil Stadium hosted a Super Bowl is kinda hilarious. The only reason it was an NFL Stadium at all was because Bidwell was too cheap. Also, as a Packer fan, here's a not-so-fun fact: the Super Bowl has been played in AZ 3 times. Each of those times, the Packers lost in the NFC Championship Game (95, 07, 14)
What I remember most about this game was being at a buddy’s house watching and the Pack went ahead in the late 3rd quarter and we looked at each other and just shook our heads not saying a word . They got beat that day, but we knew right there they were relevant again after flat out sucking for 25 years. It’s been a fun ride
The 3 defining teams of the 90's (other than Buffalo) were the Cowboys, 49ers and Packers. The Cowboys had the Packers number while the Packers seemed to have the 9ers number. As far as the Cowboys and 49ers, Dallas had there number during Jimmy Johnson SB era but 49ers made it a bit even once Switzer took over in 94 NFC title game.
@@nickkaning7616 Yeah you’re right. You have to put the Broncos in there too. They made their back to back Super Bowl run in the late 90s. Of course those three aforementioned teams are the more legendary NFL franchises who continued their Super Bowl contending and/or winning ways during that decade.
Broncos obviously should be mentioned for the literal 90's, but their run was kind of a different era imho after the Cowboys & 49ers had dropped off. When Denver won its 2nd Superbowl, even the Packers had faded as the NFC was dominated in 98 by Minnesota and Atlanta.
Yeah, you have to include the broncos. Everyone says the cowboys were the team of the 90s. They were the team of the first half of the 90s. Broncos repeated and stopped a repeat in the second half of the 90s
I get very emotional because I was in Wisconsin but was born down south many asked me who you with back then I said Dallas not realizing that that was the last time Cowboys has won a Superbowl now I'm back home in Tennessee the Titans hasn't won the cowboys hasn't won a Superbowl in 25 years I witnessed green bay win there Superbowl after 31 years since 1966 lived in Wisconsin graduated from high school up there and it's one of best football ever but in my mind Dallas just fell off since then 😢so sad don't wanna choose side but I'm realizing I'm just a fan though I have made Tennessee Titans my team but my spirit is with the Packers I can go on and on with who I have as my team I choose the Packers love Tennessee and Dallas but that love for the Packers is always with me amen Greatest fan ever I don't care what people say Green Bay Packers for life
He is a real man unlike that drug addict Michael Irvin. Or that soft as a pretzel Troy Aikman who I hear has alot in common with Elton John if ya know what I mean. Farve a real tough guy. But as a cowgirl fan you have hero's like Tony Romo
Man you can just feel how worse this Cowboys team was under Switzer. It's a shame Jimmy Johnson didn't stick around, this team would've been dominant well into the millennium. I guess we can blame Jerry Jones on that one -_-
I don't think Switzer was a bad coach. He just didn't have the fearful command of the players the way Johnson did. Switzer was much more of a players coach, for better or worse.
I don’t know about that. Troy Aikman had multiple concussions and back problems that lead to his retirement in 2000. Michael Irvin retired due to a serious spinal injury in 1999. Emmitt Smith only lasted through the 2002 season before two uneventful years in Arizona. Jimmy Johnson would have had to replace 3 of the greatest offensive players in Cowboys history by the early 00’s and keep the defense in top shape. His four years with the Miami Dolphins showed that he might have gotten incredibly lucky in Dallas with the talent he had. Maybe they would have won a few more playoff games 1996-98, but I think that’s all he would have added.
If Jimmy had stuck around I can easily see the Cowboys winning an additional Super Bowl or two in the ‘90s in addition to the 3 that they did. Aikman and Emmitt Smith were productive players through ‘99 and Irvin didn’t retire until 4 games into the ‘99 season. While Jimmy didn’t have anywhere near the luck offensively with the Dolphins that he did with Dallas the man still knew how to scout and draft defensive players. During his tenure in Miami he drafted Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain.
This game is why I call BS when people try to say the Cowboys were lucky to avoid the 49ers that year. The Packers were no joke and were an up and coming team.
its wild as a Cowboys fan this was their last meaningful playoff win minus the Super Bowl that followed. they havent even been close since. thats insane
this was an underrated point of the Cowboys. I think only reebok acknowledged that well enough in their Emmitt Smith ad in the 90's. Was broadcasted in my homecountry of Brazil even though the NFL did not had established broadcasting here at the time, as opposed to now
Yo, this game was a true heavyweight slugfest. Growing up as a Cowboys fan, I was supremely confident that the Triplets Cowboys could beat any team in this galaxy, but this was one of those rare games in which I was genuinely terrified. Brett Favre scared the sht out of me. But Dallas hung in there and won. Classic game.
@ 10:33 I have heard how Reggie and Gilbert Brown would talk about their titanic battles with Erik Williams and Larry Allen. Just listen to pure, sheer unadulterated violence…
Did you see that stat line: When Irvin and Smith both have over 100 yards receiving/rushing the Cowboys were 18-0. They had that balance. Aikman was the man back then too.
cowboys would have won 3 straight super bowls and maybe 4 in a row if jerry jones had kept jimmy johnson. jerry jones ego cost him from having the greatest dynasty in nfl history
y'all knew that from the gate. Jerry needs to retire, or sell, whatever. In this latest draft it was a shame, he was barely able to put two cohesive words together on the interview
This was probably the best version of Green Bay Dallas played in the 1996 NFC Championship game. Green Bay had all the tools to beat Dallas but even as good as they were, when that 4th quarter came, they couldn't keep up with Dallas, they were eventually outclassed. And this was Brett Favre and Robert Brooks at their very best. They also had big Gilbert Brown in the middle, along with the atg Reggie White and the Dallas offense line still outmatched Green Bay's defensive line. Dallas was very difficult to beat in the 90s, infact, the 49ers were the only team to do it in that 94-95 season.
Nah, the best version of the Packers was the following season when they won it. The cowboys still win the regular season matchup. Most forget though, the Packers were without brooks, chmura and freeman in that game so it wasn't the best measuring stick.
@@clickman443Cowboys were missing players in this game as well, let’s not excuses lol they just couldn’t keep up even when they were healthy in the playoffs.
@@SImSZN they were falling out of their prime by 96. With the exception of 94 they maximized their run which in that era, 3-4 years was what a team generally got.
This game showed how dominant the 90s Cowboys were. That Packer team was SB champion caliber and came to Dallas to win but still lost. The Cowboys' running game did what they wanted, Alvin Harper was gone, Irvin did his thing, and Haley didn't even play.
Love Favre. He was one of the best of all time but damn he threw some big interception’s. The last one to Larry Brown was the killer in this game. Larry Brown had 2 more big pics in the Super Bowl that year too
Nice to see a Cowboy team play with some pride vs GB at home. All this blaming McCarthy is BS. Switzer ran a loose ship, but the stars Troy, Playmaker and E Double Deuce 22, took it upon themselves to will the team to victory. Thats what heart does for you
