In 1998 I was 16. I remember writing to Pontiac about how much I loved the redesigned Trans AM. They sent me a promotional kit the included a dvd with these same commercials and a calendar. I still have the calendar.
still have my black ws6 trans am and still love it ! hubby has a 2000 pewter auto trans am he still loves his too ! and would buy a new one if they still made them 😭
Thanks for your comments! I´m from Spain and I have the only known 98 Trans Am WS6 standart convertible all over the country... xD they are very rare cars in Spain, only LT1 european version were sold here... LS1 never have been sold officially here! I love them!
Hi, same here in Austria (europe), from 94-97 GM sold here the 3,4L V6 firebird and 5,7L V8 TransAm and from 98-02 only the camaro but never both cars together🤦♂️😡😭
Damn I am lucky to had own in my life 5 of these birds 2 v6 firebirds, 1 formula trans am 1 trans a ws6 and right now I own a 98 trans am thanks Canada for this great muscle cars 💯
I had this video in a VHS cassette!😁 Pontiac would send you a copy through the mail, upon request. I was a senior in college that year! Its still awsome today, in my opinion
I love it. I still have my 2000 ws6 that I bought new. I just got the c8 last year so I only drive my trans am very little still have low miles on it and planning to keep the miles low and mint condition. They are the best built and most amazing cars the 98-02 trans am ws6 and firehawks
Unfortunately, Pontiac only ran those commercials for a short time. GM completely failed as a company when it came to promoting the F body, and it reflects in the car's sales versus the much inferior (at the time) Mustang.
@@jebadias1468 much inferior ??? HAHAHA only thing inferior was the mustang. Lmaooo this car made 300 plus horsepower and will continue to outbeat the mustang until they switched to the 5.0 in 2011 !!!! almost 2 decades later!
In case some of you didn't know it, the TRANS-AM IS A FIREBIRD.... NOT the other way around. The name of the car is PONTIAC FIREBIRD. The TRANS-AM is just one of several FIREBIRD MODELS . Check out what the announcer says at 0:25...
1994, 1996 and 1998 was a great year for sport cars. Whether it was the 1998 Trans Am, 1994 Mitsubishi 3000 GT, 1994 Ford Mustang or the 1998 Toyota Supra. These year model cars are classics.
caponeike a STUPRA is a UGLY toyota piece of SHIT i shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence with Real Sports Cars like the Firebird Trans Am Chevrolet Camaro Or Ford Mustang these are Great cars a toyota is GARBAGE
If they had brought back the FIREBIRD instead of the GTO, Pontiac would still be here today. The GTO's day was long gone....and NO ONE wanted it. There was still a big demand for the FIREBIRD...which is the reason why independent tuner companies are building new Camaro- based clones of it . Instead...what did PONTIAC give us ? A GTO that no one wanted, a G-8 four Door Sedan that no one wanted (aren't there ENOUGH performance 4-Doors on the market ?) , a 4-cylinder SOLSTICE that Firebird fans totally IGNORED, and a proposed G-8 truck that no one would have wanted EITHER. People don't realize that, the reason why the GTO was discontinued in the FIRST place (in 1974) , was that the FIREBIRD was STEALING SALES from it. The logical thing to do would have been for GM to bring back the FIREBIRD at the same time the CAMARO came back.. As soon as the CAMARO came back, it leaped ahead of the MUSTANG in sales to tops in it's class. The FIREBIRD would have been EQUALLY AS BIG. Now it is 2014....and people still miss the FIREBIRD. EVERYBODY ELSE "GOT IT". WHY DIDN'T GM ??
G11B The ONLY reason why BUICK is still around is because they are now successfully selling cars in CHINA. China is now BUICK'S BIGGEST MARKET. They are now selling more cars there than in the U.S. Pontiac's main market competitor has always been DODGE. Both PONTIAC and DODGE were the "performance divisions" of their respective companies. But, DODGE is still around today, because it remained true to itself and it's intended market: high- performance. Look at DODGE'S lineup: The VIPER. THE CHARGER. THE CHALLENGER. High-performance versions of their RAM Pickup truck ( The VIPER-powered SRT-10). The HEMI V-8. The V-10. Special Hi-Po R/T and SRT versions of it's other vehicles ( Neon, Caliber, Dakota, Caravan, and Durango). Dodge played to win...and now it has the ULTIMATE BOMBSHELL: The 707 Horsepower HELLCAT. And they've sent Ford and Chevy scrambling back to the drawing boards. But, PONTIAC has always been HAMPERED BY GM Management , who kept on giving them the same stupid FRONT-WHEEL-DRIVE designs they were giving their OTHER divisions . By the time they realized their mistake , and vowed to give PONTIAC an all REAR-DRIVE lineup....it was TOO LATE. They went BANKRUPT...and PONTIAC DIED AS A RESULT.
G11B I have a Pontiac Firebird Formula Convertible with the rare 6-speed option. I will NEVER sell it. Maybe PONTIAC, AND the FIREBIRD is GONE.... But, I'm KEEPING MINE !!!
The GTO would have been a good idea, except that branding a Holden as a muscle car was just a piss poor idea. The Holden looked nothing like a GTO, and it weighed too god damn much.
I totally agree with you on that... I currently own a 02 black trans am Ws6 and I love it.. I have had it for eight years and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.
Well number one this was just Advertising. Not always exact to the product. And this was the first year of this body style, trial and error is how you make better products man.
T Carroll they were under rated anyway. My 93 Lt1 is rated at 275hp at the crank. They were putting 265hp to the wheels. So closer to 305-310hp at the crank was more true.
I Had A Black 99 WS6 T/A T/Top Coupe A 2001 Red Firebird T/Top Coupe With The W68 Performance & Appearance Package & A 2000 Pewter Metallic WS6 T/A T/Top Coupe Loved Them All But Got Spoiled After I Started Driving Infiniti BMW & Mercedes I But I Still Want Another 4th Gen Trans Am WS6 Or Not I'll End Up Putting A Ram Air Hood On It Anyway I See Myself Owning Another Trans Am In The Future Hopefully I Can Find A Sunset Orange Metallic Black Red Navy Blue Metallic Or Another Pewter Metallic One Soon
This muscle car looks amazing..... The real problem about cars like these in Greece the country i live in is it's 3.8 or 5.7 cc respectively.... In United States i think cars are taxed by horsepower but in Greece cars are taxed by Cubic Centimeters... So for a car of 2000 cc you have to pay almost 1000 euros per year only for tax reasons..... Imagine for a Pontiac Trans Am.... Too bad Pontiac shutted down!!
Pontiac got exactly what it deserved for not reviving this car and giving us that piece of shit GTO instead. GM should be embarrassed for not keeping their performance division, instead opting to keep 2 geriatric brands, Buick and Cadillac.
+sarah marshall Pontiac was the performance division? Really?? Cadillac and Buick had more powerful cars than Pontiac all throughout the years, but without all that extra plastic on the body. Trans Am was just a Camaro with lots of extra plastic body moldings.
Cadillac and Buick were luxury car divisions . Yes , both built performance cars over the years , but only PONTIAC was GM's designated performance DIVISION. They had the GTO , The FIREBIRD. The BONNEVILLE . The LeMANS, & the GRAND PRIX. All of which were capable of serious performance prior to the Front-Wheel- Drive era. Their position was long coveted by Chevrolet , who also had performance cars ...but they were GM's low-price division. Now that Pontiac is gone, Chevy wins its position ...by default. A Wanna know why a new Firebird didn't appear when the Camaro came back ? I bet someone inside Chevrolet knows the answer !!!
williamg2552 "The BONNEVILLE . The LeMANS, & the GRAND PRIX". LOL......hell, why not mention the AZTEC? Same amount of performance but much more reliable. Chevrolet and Buick have always outran the plastic Pontiacs. Facts don't lie. And the reason Firebird didn't appear when the Camaro came back was because Pontiac put it's hopes in a oversized low performance ugly GTO. See, someone inside Chevrolet already knows the answer. Someone inside Buick does also.
Generations ago. Cadillac makes good vehicles, but 95% of Buick owners are the very elderly. Pontiac was GM's performance division as Dodge is to Chrysler. Buick makes the same ugly, cheap-ass cars over and over and should have been put out of its misery with Oldsmobile.
Every American car brand that i searched in Google is headquarted in Michigan and almost every one in Detroit..... Does anybody know why?? United States with 50 states and almost 320.000.000 population makes me really curious why all cars are made in Michigan??
