For all the haters this man is trying and is actually working on a 4X4 Tacoma. There are lots of 2WD vids out there but not many 4X4. Why cause they’re not as common and a challenge to work on. We’ll done and inspirational brother.

I thought that it was cool to see someone have the same struggles as I usually do when working on my truck. Unlike the normal videos where everything goes smoothly. Thank you for the video.

Hey Todd, that you so much for taking the time to watch and comment! Yeah, I hate it also when I watch a video and it looks so easy then I try it out and it turns out to be way harder. Aloha and take care

I have the same type set up 98 Tacoma 3.4 4x4 5 speed and my ball joints came apart and tore my axle out of case and rolled my 31inch tire under my passenger side door and fender ! This video just helped me tremendously on how to remove the other half of axle

What's great are the struggles that come with this job are explained. I'm about to undertake the same job on my '96 Tacoma 4x4 with 303,000 miles on it, but on the driver's side (split two part boot, and new noises when turning). The pain in the ass elements are why a mechanic charges so much. This will be the first time I do it, so his struggles and explanation are appreciated. I want to know how my great old truck is put together, so I'm doing the job myself. THANKS for the vid.

Awesome video bud, thanks for posting it was a huge help. The guy posting on here telling you to “put the wrench down and walk away” has probably never picked one up himself.

I'm going to upvote just because I respect that you have manual hubs and it requires that much more work, sheesh! Feeling pretty good about doing both sides of mine soon, but I have auto hubs so it's just a 35mm socket to free that end. Mahalo

Great video close up's perfect lighting and focus thank you. What was it that fell out of the diff when you pulled out the axle? I have the same 97 4x4 2.7 with those manual locker like yours, mine is at 185k. I'm going to be doing the same so thank you for this video.

Another thought for everyone: Disconnect the sway links on both sides, and you swing the bar itself out of the way. It may not work for every vehicle, but there's more room to wiggle.

About to take this on with my 98 Tacoma 4x4 but also replacing the struts and ball joints. I’m assuming just removing that strut right after losing the cv will reduce some time

at 6:52, was the jack in the way? removing the jack would lower the arm creating room to remove the CV? JW?

Never saw a 1st gen Taco hub look like this one. All other videso show a diferent style hub and they pull the CV out from the outside, and no need to undo shock or compress spring? They just loosen/unbolt tierods. This hub looks like it is from a Land crusier?

Do u have to put the truck in neutral when replacing the cv axle? Someone told us we had to. Right now we have it in park and have blocks in back for safety. While we have it jacked up.

@iworkforbudlight - thank you. Ya we just left it in park lol. My dad and I had a very difficult time getting those parts out. I looked on here and with the help from your video we managed. It really helped us out . Thank you again. I appreciate you taking time out of your day to get back to me. Oh and we did finish it already Thanks👍

Sorry to hear it got lost. What I would personally do is head down to a Toyota Dealership with your Vin# ask them to pull up a diagram and see if they can order it. If the part is not available ask for the part number and check online. I hope this helps.

You don't have to unbolt the shock you have to unbolt the torsion bar link is a lot easier and as might as well replace it too since those are worned out most of the time

The instructor in me is forcing me to point out something serious in the video: Flip-flops? C'mon man. Don't bother telling me I'm a pedant with a stick up my ass. I already know it's there. Otherwise, it's a fantastic video, and it helped me a great deal.

@sbell7105
@sbell7105 4 года назад
Except that there is no such thing as a 94 Tacoma. They started with a 95.5 year and you could have most certainly ordered a 98 with manual hubs. Also neither the first gen Tacoma 95.5-04 or the sixth gen Pickup 89-95 use struts in their suspension system. The 89-95 use a torsion bar IFS and the Tacos use coil spring IFS.

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. First clue was the flip flops, I see that and I just go to the next vid. Same goes for the four wheeling videos, dude gets stuck in some steep rocky terrain and exits his 4 wheeler in flip flops, I'm GONE
