Cost me 150 for a trans flush, plus 30$ for the gasket and filter, plus tax, so i end up with about 200$ total, and i really appreciate this video, very detailed! Thank you. Perfect.
Dude I love this video. You're a lifesaver! I have a 96 Chevy S10 I'm going to change the transmission fluid on. This will be my first time tackling it. Initially I thought the job would be complicated to do but it looks easy. Thanks so much for the video.
How did it work out for u cause my transmission fuild just as black as his and now it won't shift at all so I know I need to definitely do this to my 98 chevy blazer
@@MacAutoDiagoh damn RIP Briandd 😢let this be a lesson to y'all be careful when changing that tranny fluid! Edit: I wonder if the s10 made it through that terrible ordeal or if it suffered the same fate 🤔 maybe Brian and his s10- just like a trusty steed were laid to rest together... or maybe the truck was used as a coffin? Hey that's not a bad idea! When I go I'd like to be buried in my old chevy k1500! With a full tank of premium, tuned up and a fresh oil change- mobil 1 of course. Might as well have a new set of tires on her too. I'll take some a/t 10 ply shoes. Oh and my stereo HAS to be 100% working this part is important. A new paint job too for good measure and I reckon those new tires could use some attention, hit those babies up with some wax, make em shine. Gotta look good, no? Then I should be ready to hit the road in the afterlife. Did I just start a new trend?
Your wrong about years and having a shallow pan, i have 2001 and its a deep pan. It also depends on if its 4wheel or heavy duty. Shallow pans are the same level all the way across, deep pans have an area like yours that changes depth you have a deep pan and that filter you got is wrong its for a shallow and yours is deep and the difference isnt only the shaft on the filter. The deeper pan filter is actually thicker.
This is a Mexicans man trick when he don't have money I see a gringo learn something here from el mexicano lol you do what you gotta do sometimes I could probably do that out in the country but in the city a neighbor might complain a out that oil on the floor
I love your videos, and your no-nonsense methods! I never would have thought to clean a pan with dirt, but it works like a charm! Thank you for your help!
Mine takes a longer to shift when driving and when in park when I go to drive it the shifter is kinda hard. Will this fix it just got the vehicle trans fluid is dirty damn near orange lol and help is appreciated 1999 gmc Yukon Denali 4x4
Awesome video , question how do you feel about using parts cleaner after dropping the pan instead of wiping with a cloth. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m experiencing a hesitation when putting in reverse. My 99 never had a flush so I’m excited about getting this done. Thanks again!
So he knocks Toyota in this video because he believes that there inferior to gm when it comes to transmissions. I'm sorry but in the last several decades general motors has had some of the worst transmission designs that have existed. And Toyota, completely on the other side of the spectrum. Has had some other the best. Now I own a 95 k1500 with the 4l60e. Considered a weak transmission design by gm. In fact, it's known that it is.. Until this guy said that load of horse crap. I was giving him a chance. But after that, I'll won't be watching any of this guys videos. Because he clearly spits out horseshit. Here He's trying to throw Toyota and Honda in the same category as Korean cars. No gm belongs in that category. Because today, they make absolutely garbage.
Hey fella ..everyones entitled to their opinion, just like myself. I think you have done an outstanding job educating us on a simpler way to get it done quick and efficient. Job well done thnx....
I enjoyed the video. It had great formation. Do you have any videos or information on transmission issues involving shifting. Mine stopped shifting d 35 mph. Reverse is fine. I change the 2 shift solenoids while following your video for filter change and oil change. Still doesn't shift. There were no metal particles in the oil or pan. It look similar to yours on the video. K1500 1997 GMC Suburban 5.7 liter. Any suggestions other than a rebuild?
i have a new to me 2000 Cadillac Escalade with the 5.7 vortec and when searching for the necessary parts on line come across the question..is it a regular or a deep pan ...other than it may require more fluid for the deep pan , is the gasket and filter the same? how would l know if l have a deep pan? i would hate to have the wrong parts when l have it all apart. Great video BTW!
DO NOT LISTEN TO THIG GUY HIS INFO WILL DESROY TOUR TRANSMISSION. He’s completely wrong about two very important things. First it’s a “deep pan “. He installed a shallow pan filter. Second, the filter is I not suppose to dangle loosely it’s needs to be held tight up against the transmission. The reason his filter is dangling loosely is because the seal that holds the filter up has failed and need to be replaced. Third. The old filter you saw in the video the correct. Deep pan filter. He installed the incorrect shallow pan filter. The seal comes with the new filter. The tranny was being starved for fluid .that’s why there was metal all over the filter. Gm switched to deep pans on the 4l60e in 1997. You can identify the deep pan because it has a step , it goes from shallow to deep, a shallow pan is completely flat on the bottom.. i didn’t even finish this video before I posted . I’m going to watch the rest now.. this guy is nuts. Ok I’m back. He didn’t seat the seal all way. It needed to seated with hammer and a long 18 or 19 mil socket. . There is no way he seated properly just with his hand NO EFFFIN way. Watch any other video to be very safe. Just look up shallow pan and deep pan images you see he was incorrect, look up shallow pan filter. You will see it’s the one he installed. And you will come to the same conclusion , he’s ignorant regarding the 4l60e. Watch any ten videos about doing this service on the 4l60e. You will be glad you did.. I’m back again. I found a post here. The individual followed his instructions and what do you know. The filter dropped down because filter wasn’t seated properly.
Man, this one of the best videos I have come across on chevy trans filter and fluid change. Thanks for being informative and detailed. Looking forward to more videos.
I have a 1999 Silverado pickup and all at once I don't have reverse and I have never had any problems with it at all in the past? When it is real cold sometimes it would shift up kind of slow till it warmed up alittle but other than that always works great! Do you suppose the filter could be causing all my problems? Since I have lost my reverse gear it rapes a lot higher before it shift in my forward gears now also! What do you think? 2wheel drive Pickup at a 5.3 liter Vortex engine!
You said that the 99 5.7 has a shallow pan, but that's a deep pan on your truck. I think you meant to say deep instead at 2:05. It's my understanding that deep replaced shallow on all the 4L60E tranny's around 1997.
Okay, so you didn't bother to show removing the pan! That's the hardest part and you need to show the complete deal. Just in case you found an easy way!
Awsome great job got a question i bought a 1999 chvy blazer sl it has 342,000 miles they never changed the filter i was told to filter the old fluid and put it back in transmission add 1qt trans x told me if i added new fluids i will start slipping is that true?
1 in 347 Honda engines is a lemon 1 in 87 gmc v8 is a lemon depending on the years and makes of course . Not everything made in Japan is shit. Toyota has great non interference engines that run 300k without a problem, timming belt snaps and won't hurt the engine.
So I have a 1996 Chevy gladiator van . I start it up and it turns off . I look on the odometer and the battery needle fluctuates up and down . Not only that but when I put it in gear it jerks back and the brakes are locked. Same thing when I put it in d . I have to put it in park just to stop it . Can u help me . What’s this problem sound like . Maby transmission needs to be replaced ?
I do all my own maintenance, and people for $35 +- you can buy a pan with a drain plug. Best money spent on transmission...it makes it alot easier..to not put off maintenance!
cheapest transmission I could find was $1,800 I bought a rebuild kit hundred fifty bucks a rebuilt torque converter$ 60 and transmission fluid I'm at 10,000 miles on it and still running works great saved a lot of money RU-vid Save Me $$$$. don't be afraid to get dirty ! great vid Rock on ☆
Is it the same for a 98 chevy blazer my oil is that black color as well and I know it's clog up and I need to do what u did cause mys won't shift at all also what the tool call I can buy to get those bots off
Did anyone else notice he talks about a shallow pan at the beginning and then shows underneath and it looks to me like he’s got a deep pan with the step on it???
the cigarette butt is the key to good clean pan. Great video. I left the old filter grommet in and then put the new filter in with a new grommet. Didn't think about it til 500 miles later and had to do it all over again.
I have a 1999 Chevy suburban 454 7.4l K2500 is there any way to fix a slipping well it's a hard shift it shifts at well let's just say I have reverse. I put it in 1 2 3 and Drive it goes but slowly I put tranny non slip in it also helps stop any leaks. Do I need the thicker tranny hard shift? Will it fix my issue, do I need a new tranny and or rebuild it
Thanks . Could a dirty or clogged transmission filter cause the transmission to not shift right? I ask because my truck was running great before I parked it. I left it sitting for a week, I started up and went for a drive and the that's when I notice it started acting up. My speedometer wasn't working so I turn back around to the house, checked the fluid. I notice it was low and the stick was a little dirty. It wasn't metal shaving though. So do you think by putting in a new filter and fresh fluid will fix it?
the chevy in the video had that prob once, it ended up i had low voltage in the battery, you may want to check your alternator output. it was charging, but not keeping up an i had shifting issues and my speed odometer did the same thing. just a thought. however clean tranny fluid and filter can always help shifting issues. thanks for watching.
my truck a 91 k 2500 4x4 is having troubles ..it do not move and if a i wait few minutes it drive like nothing happens for a while and then it do it again ....what can i do ///? thanks
if your changing fluid and filter, it should be close to 6 qts, but if your flushing, another 9 . the tourqe converter holds the other 9 qts. but again if the truck is not running while you do this process then about 6, give or take a pint. thanks for watching.
I flushed the fluid, cleaned the pan , replaced the filter . collected, poured 3 liters, a level above the 1 cm mark hot, but the engine is cold. I started the car, the fluid is foamed, is only R and D without changing it. what did I do wrong?
I am not a professional mechanic, I can just read… I liked your video because you’ve got brass balls doing some of the nonsense that you did. (The dirt in the pan is a good example… You don’t need an abrasive to get that old stuff out, you can just wipe it out if you want to… Or use Dawn dish detergent or even acetone like brake cleaner… That stuff will come right out without scrubbing it with an abrasive) On the other hand, the bolts that attach the pan to the transmission are tightened to factory specs of 13 foot pounds… There is no way in hell you could possibly achieve 13 foot pounds (unless you’ve got Godzilla hands) holding a ratchet the way you did. just say’n. I do like how comprehensive you are, and how step-by-step you are, and the fact that you can actually hold the camera still without making it look like you’re camera crew for the Blair witch Project. Thank you for the video
Amazing video ! Ok so I'm not sure what type of fluid I should get my 2000 5.7 tahoe planning on doing this job on the neglected turd (has 156k ) the previous owners haven't done anything to it ... I did the plugs and they were stock from 2000....
Anything back in the day were great cars and trucks. Basically bulletproof. They don’t make them like the used to anymore sadly. I have a 97 Toyota Camry with original engine and transmission that is still going strong.
We have a 97 Chevy 350 with the 4l60E, 58k original miles never had any trans issues till recently it just quit shifting, what could be the problem? Any sensors or electrical we can check?
Hi I have a 2008 Pontiac G6 auto with 115k. It runs ok but has a rough shift every now and then. Do you think a filter and fluid change would be ok as I don't know if it's ever been done. Thanks to whoever responds
Good job! I have a 1995 Chevrolet 1 ton RV 454 engine! One of the pan bolts is buried under a steel frame support beam! Have you come across this and got a solution?
I had my transmission fluid changed and filter replaced. I checked under the 99 Tahoe today and saw there was a leak in the trans. Fluid. Is it possible it’s too tight? Would loosening it up a bit stop the leak potentially?
Love the video man. Got anything on the mode door actuator. I think that's what it's called the one on the driver side. Any tricks on that. Followed one video and winded up damaging the blend door one and had to take it in. Dont want to do that again. Have a 99 Silverado 1500. TIA
It's easy to see you know what you're talking about. You covered it all including saving diy peeps unnecessary expense. I never thought of using dirt and have never used solvents to clean in the interest of saving money. Paper towels have worked for me and that about rinsing with water and drying it thoroughly with a rag,; there's nothing better.Thank you.
I did this procedure about four years ago and it worked out well except for I was hoping the 4l60e in my 1998 1/2 ton pickup would shift a bit softer from 1st to 2nd when cold. What causes this hard shifting while it's cold?
fluid is to thick. your 1st to second shift solenoid could be dirty or clogging up a bit. you can try a cleaner, but in my experience changing the solenoid is the true fix. amazon sells all five pretty cheap. of course your gonna be doing that service again. ha. but they are all accessible. copy and paste this link to amazon. thanks for watching.
