We're currently at a similar stage. Started with floor rust repair, now we're on to the rockers and now found rust on roof and doors. Fun time. Keep the XJ content coming if possible.
Love it! As a Michigan resident I feel your pain. Cars and trucks just rot up here. I believe there are less corrosive options than spreading salt but it never seems to take hold. Additionally, I don't think car manufactures have much incentive to provide better corrosion preventative.
man, on that frame rail. beings yu have it open already. id consider blasting it and coating the metal. then add frame stiffeners on the outside. they have kits. i prefer the iron rock offroad. if you get those installed it would be stronger in the long run. and you could avoid R&I on that rear frame section. thats a bear. boat load of work. props to you for taking this one. not many wil lanymore. subed for more. keep it up!
Why did you section that rear quarter there and not at the C and D pillars. remove the window and drill the spot welds. looks like you have a lot on your hands there, just curious. seems like a lot of extra filler. im due for a rocker replacement on my son's xj here soon.
That’s how the quarter is sold, not sure what you mean on the filler there will be very little when I am finished, I will go back over that in a future video.
@@MrFireman164 oh that makes sense. didn't realize you could get a restamp for an xj now. i ment if you were taking it from the donor. you could dril the spot welds in the door jam, along the bottom, in the hatch, and lower half of the rear window. this would allow you to cut it at the d pillar, and c pillar before you pop it. this would leave you only about 2 inches on each one to finish weld and body work. rather than the about 2.5 ft seam you will have cutting it left to right. im not doubting your metal work ability and have done more quarter swaps than most. looking forward to your progress. just found your pics on FB actually of the rocker. keep it up!
