1999 Lexus LS 400 cold air intake mod and drive 

whoa it's the man of the hour himself! glad your car is doing well, and i'm honestly happy that your 400 was faster than your 430 since i'm always looking for reasons to claim the 400 is better haha... i'm so jealous that you've been able to own your 1999 since it was basically new, how as the ride quality changed over the years? which suspension bushings have you had to replace?

very true, but that's exactly why i wanted to do this. it's so perfect and refined you can almost hardly hear the engine lol... i didn't do this hoping to make any more power, just more noise. it sounds amazing in person. the only improvement that i think can actually be made is to put the optional 18" wheels from the 04-06 LS430, the 16's it comes with are about the only thing stylistically i'm not a huge fan of. plus with the 245/45-18 tires ride quality is almost unaffected but the handling is noticeably improved

stroock6394 I also think the wheels of the 98-00 don't compliment the car at all. On the other hand, the 95-97 wheels looks fantastic. I am not sure why they did not keep them. They were plain and simple with solid strait lines but gave the impression of something authoritative that deserves respect. It is similar to a tank design, 90% practical and only 10% aesthetic, yet very overwhelming and impressive at the same time.

bit late here but if you still care... no i'm not saying that... i'm just saying it allows cool sounds to come out of the intake, but the person this idea originates from claims maybe an additional 1 or 2 hp although honestly i'd be surprised if this makes any difference whatsoever, i mainly just did it for the noise and never expected any power gains

can't say i have... the bit about removing the seal behind the headlight should allow for some cold air to enter, but if you wanna be really serious you can always strategically place some heat shielding if you're worried. the only thing i've noticed is that the filter gets dirtier faster but that kinda makes sense www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/55111-hi-performance-ls400-mod-in-the-works.html here's where i got the designs, make the cut with as much care and precision as you can, and it's never a bad idea to get a spare part before cutting the existing one

Didn’t you hear him speak on the k&n? I had them on 2 of my cars They get filter oil into the MAF They let dirt into the engine

@@RU-vidcensoredmyusername the filter was over oiled. theirs instructions. if it passed oil ofcourse it passed the dirt that was in the oil. lightly oil and allow it to absorb in the fabric. never ever had an issue.

Tha Great then it came over oiled out of the box. I’m picky about how my car runs. Runs better with stock air filter. (I have trucks)

i don't blame you at all for saying that, i'm normally the one getting shit for being too much of a 'purist' which was why for this 'mod' i made sure it was easily reversible with a minimal amount of parts being altered... i just wanted to hear how it sounds and i like the result so i've kept it all these years, all the air going into the engine still goes through the filter (not the K&N) and i've done the blackstone oil analysis after running this setup for years and they called it a 'perfect report' so afaik there's no harm being done... i appreciate your concern and dedication to the LS though lol

they gave it too much back pressure and the ego pipe cracks? this air intake above the radiator also brings heat losing horsepower

I’d never change my 1992 Gen 1 for nothing! The car is flawless! Don’t understand why anyone would want to mod any Lexus. Other than basic maintenance.
