I believe you just solved my problem. I felt like a little kid blowing bubbles ... lol... 99 4Runner with a 3.4L engine... same canister, cracked in the opposite corner!
I have a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner and it had this problem. I got a check engine light - code P0446 I followed the steps you showed and it fixed the problem! 😊 Plus now I have better acceleration and hopefully better fuel economy. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I saw a new emissions canister on Amazon for $285 and if I took it to a shop it would have been about $500. Thanks again
Thank you so much Mar!!! Had the P0446 for years. I read forums, chased down vacuum leaks, and tested canister valves - I did conclude it was the canister. But, I got into the habit of clearing the OBD and driving just the "right" amount of miles to pass emissions before the check light returned. Today, emissions test due, and I had tracked down a 4runner at a junkyard to go pull/buy the canister. Thought I would review a vid on replacement 1st and came across yours as I was getting ready to leave. Did the spray test and bingo! I had leaks on both front corners! I really love fixing stuff vs. trashing it. JB plastic weld, passed emissions, exhaust literally smells better; and I'm confidant this was the cause of P0446 and a great solution. Thanks again for video!
Thank you very much, It did help. My leak was in the very same spot on a 2000 Tacoma Pre Runner. The SOB was driving me nuts. Thanks again! Be safe my friend.
Thank you very much Sir! You just saved me close to $1000 from the dealership repair. Amazing how so many of the 1998 4Runners’ canisters results in the same problem. I really do appreciate this post.
Thank you for your video, it was exact problem on my 99 Tacoma prerunner with a 3.4 l engine. You should set up super thanks so we can send you money for this video. I'd gladly send you 15 to $20 for the knowledge you shared considering how much it just saved me
Dude...I just placed and order for a new EVAP canister and then checked one of those hoses you mentioned at the beginning, sure enough...I just cancelled the order for that 300 dollar part, i think you just saved me a good chunk of change.
Thank You sooo much for the tip- I owe you a beer! This check engine light has been driving me crazy trying to seek out this issue for no $$., well, except JBWeld., but you get it- thanks again!
This is just what I needed. I've been putting off the search for a canister leak for a couple of years because I just didn't want to pull the canister to check. You make it look easy, and I am going to spray it in the car, as you did, and see if I can do it this way.
It was like you made a video about my exact problem (error code P0446). I had the same crack in the same place on the 98 6 cylinder 4runner. Thanks for the great video
Great video, man! Good information and straight to the point. Never heard of a leak there but I’ve been chasing a vacuum leak for a while and am headed to the garage to check that out. Thanks!
Put soap and water and it looks like the leak is the same spot on my 2000 6 cylinder 3.4 L engine!! Im going to try and patch this up soon and let you know how it goes...
@@martillo78 I change the first gas cap wasn’t it I do notice it come on more often when gas is up pass half hasn’t come on for a while gonna try smog tomorrow see how it goes if it fail I’ll go thru your way
01 02 underneath or near rear spare tire as far as runners. 96 - 2000 is under hood... 2000 though might be underneath like 01 02 not sure about that year.
