Hello Kalvin, I love your channel, keep posting your the best,your the only guy for uz on internet, I have swapped 1uz vvti into my mazda rx8 ,didnt had much space in the engine bay so had to install log header pipes, installed a greddy gauge and the oil pressure was 60-70psi when cold on idle and it keep dropping as the engine gets hot to 0psi but it did go up with rpm, then I installed the manual guage to confirm it, I guess the greddy gauge was faulty, becuase on manual gauge it gives me 35psi when cold and 21psi when hot on idle kept the engine running for 15mintues, I'm running 10w-30 in my engine acording to factory spec, and the weather here in my city is around 1 in winters max and in summers it goes upto 48 which engine oil should I use, I build this car for daily driving and drifting practice, we dont get 10-50 normally available here hard to find , but we do have 5-30,10-40,20-50,or heavy oil 20-60 available here, most avialable brands here are mobil1,zic,shell,calltex,liquymolly,valovoline, kindly suggest which oil should I go for to protect my engine at best, and any other things you like to mention I'm all ears, your no¹ student

15w40. Rotella is what I use in my 89 ls400 high zink value as well. Shit we change oil on semi trucks at 14k if the oil can go that long in a big diesel, definitely good for my car . But with theses newer engines being produced with vvti systems, cam phasers, thicker oil will make for lazy actuators and throw a trouble code.
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ 3 года назад
I do like the extra zinc oils. I've found the 10W50 penrite works fine in the VVti but you are correct , too high and the VVti gets lazy , which is definitely the case when I tried the 15W60. Lesson learnt. Cheers

That's shocking, we used to shim the pressure relief valve on Vauxhall engines to increase oil pressure a bit. But I can't remember if that effected idle pressure or just max pressure.
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ 4 года назад
It is shocking. Ive done plenty of different mods to relief valves on other cars over the years. The boats I work on the pressure is adjustable on the pump easily and i check the logging of oil pressure every run and suggest a change when the pressure drops a little bit. This engine has had a life before I got it but fortunately its just my test engine.
@robssm2

One thing that the shimming does is ensure the bypass valve seat pressure is high enough to forgo a bleedby issue. So yes it can help idle and max in that way.

While I agree these are very low oil pressures, consider this. Pressure infers flow. Pressure is easy to measure, flow less so. You will get oil pressure when pushing against a blocked line, but flow will be zero. A low pressure situation with excellent flow will deliver oil to the thirsty parts. I've seen oil testing done with clear cam covers under various conditions. Under really cold start conditions crazy high pressures are achieved but little flow to the heads.
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ 4 года назад
Good morning Mike. You are very correct. Understanding the relationship between pressure and flow is important and how it effects operation. Your fuel pump is an example, drop pressure there is plenty of flow. My footage for this one of the pressure changing as engine warmed up didn't work as I wanted to show that as well and more on the 3000rpm pressure when the engine internal forces require pressure (and flow) to ensure sufficient oil stays between the critical parts instead of being pushed out.
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ 4 года назад
Good morning David. As per the video use your oil pressure readings to select oil suitable for your use, engine condition and climate. So many people just change oil to different spec without checking. Hopefully this makes sense. Cheers Kelvin.
@CartuneNZ
