The tongue forward like that when he's reaching for those higher notes is actually the correct technique. It shows that no only is he talented, he really knows how to use his instrument as well.

@@neetrab well duh they digitally clean everything up, but the studio version doesn't have that guitar solo. Plus live vocals are always just more impressive. Anyone can sound good on a track

Hometown boy done good story right here, fellas. I'm from Paintsville, Kentucky, Chris' hometown. I graduated high school with his older brother, as a matter of fact. Chris was always good, even back when he worked at the local Little Caesar's pizza place and was just learning how to play guitar and write songs. Chris is a true talent, and a continuation of the long history of country singers coming out of Eastern Kentucky. I love the fact that my home continues to bring out these incredible talents, and hope we can keep them coming for future generations. And don't feel bad about Chris making you feel like you haven't succeeded in your life, I live right smack in the same place the man was born and raised, and I feel far worse, lol. Good vid, gents.

I've watched your wrestling videos Simon. I live in Chris' hometown of Paintsville Ky. My wife went to high school with Chris. Chris graduated the year after my wife. And YES, from anything I've ever heard from anybody who grew up with him, or knew him locally (I've never met him) he is the genuine article and a truly great guy and human being.

You should see him do It’s a Man’s World. Mind blower! Also, for a more rockin’ Chris, he was in a band called the Jompson Brothers. They’re more a rockin’ sound. It’s a little different for Chris. He was also in another band called the Steeldrivers. This guy is just a major talent! He’s a GOAT!!

There's so many amazing Chris Stapleton songs! It's impossible to choose! His video For Fire Away is absolutely brilliant. Great vocals, great song and the video is so raw and emotional! For live performances, I've always loved when he sang Seven Spanish Angels with Dwight Yoakam and you get to hear the lovely voice of his wife Morgane Stapleton singing with them!

The tongue on the lip is a vocal technique to open the throat. In addition to audio version of I Was Wrong, check out Death Row, with out pausing to hear him completely pull you into the song.

This is one of his best performances (not sure why you edited it like you did). I would recommend next "I Was Wrong" live at Austin City Limits. Some other great ones, "Death Row", "Barely Alive" acoustic version, "Nobody's Lonely", "Fire Away", "Whiskey And You", "Might As Well Get Stoned", "Millionaire" live version with his wife, "Either Way", "Fool Me Again", "Traveler", "Nobody To Blame", "Parachute", "Broken Halos", "Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore", there's an interesting video on RU-vid about how he came to write that song. Joe Rogan also did a podcast with him that's very interesting.
