Hahaha aww thank you!! I’m glad you learnt its name here!! ♥️ Fun thing is also that the name koel is based on the call they make! Which makes it an even cooler name!! 😭🥰

Thank you for covering an episode on crows. Ever since the crow attack at Bishan, more Singaporeans are having a negative impression on them. When in reality, they can be affectionate when befriended or rescued. Fun fact: in Indian culture, they are believed to be resurrected from deceased family members. Hence they are treated with respect there. While in Chinese culture, crows are considered a symbol of death... which is funny because Chinese ppl consider magpies as auspicious even though both magpies and crows are from the same Corvid family and magpies can be as mischievous and aggressive too when threatened

naw, thanks for your interest in crows too! but YES - tbh crows are such intelligent creatures - and they're really cool birds - but at the same time, poor residents too :( it really is such a tough situation when it comes to human-animal interactions in such a place like Singapore where we live so close to nature... :(

I call the ‘uwu’ bird ‘rain-bird’ 求魚鳥. Because every time they annoyingly sing, it would almost always rain.

Oh, so they got shipped here from Malaysia to here? Interesting. I was wondering where they came from
@LittleRedJungle
@LittleRedJungle Год назад
hahah i don't think shipped on purpose but they're definitely invasive! 😂
@jive238
@jive238 8 месяцев назад
If the house crows are invasive then how is it that the native cuckoos can parasite on then. Is it a coincidence that their eggs are similar? I mean what did these cuckoos do before these crows came about? Raise their own young?
@LittleRedJungle
@LittleRedJungle 8 месяцев назад
Aye awesome question! So from my understanding (because them coming to Singapore happened wayyy even before I was born) is that crows are only one of the many birds Koels brood parasite on! So other possible species are your mynas and shrikes, and even the Black Naped Oriole apparently! But since the proliferation of the invasive House Crows in Singapore, our Koels are seeing a lot of success with them - leading to the kind of relationship we have today!
@jive238
@jive238 8 месяцев назад
@@LittleRedJungle I see, but I do find it weird, given how smart crows can be, that they fall victim to brood parasites. But i do see videos online of crows attacking birds identified as cuckoos so maybe the koels aren't getting away completely scott free.
@ckush928
@ckush928 4 месяца назад
@@jive238 It's because the Asian Koel is native to India too, and these two birds engage in the same battle here. So Singapore's Koels didn't have to learn anything new.

I love crows but I support pruning of trees at residential areas so that they won't nest there. It will also protect them from Nparks ppl who will euthanize them when reported

U missed out on one thing. Wat happens if the crows catch the koel red handed in the nest? Part 2?? 👍🏻
@LittleRedJungle
@LittleRedJungle Год назад
Actually, there are some studies that suggest that male koels will act as 'bait' to distract the crows!! So did the crows catch the koel, or was it a ploy all along? 🤔 hahaha but yeah part 2 always sounds fun!
