Welcome to our Little Red Jungle - an educational channel that focuses on our Singapore nature and wildlife.
It's hard to protect and respect something we know so little about. So come join me, Fang Shawn, as we learn and discover all the natural wonders hidden behind our nation's concrete cityscapes together.
Keep your eyes peeled, because it's a jungle out there!
🌈 This bird can sing different tunes. I know they catch lizards but I am unaware they poke their preys onto branches to skin them off for food. They always rest on the highest point of a tree to make noticeable distinctive noises. Their bites are powerful and painful. I rescued one from my kitten's mouth once. 😅
@@LittleRedJungle I know that bird for a while. It had been singing at the backyard of my home for a while before this happened. It has shifted to other place now.
The greater hill myna was very popular as a cage bird with many 'uncles' because of its ability to 'talk' and unfortunately they learn all the foul words along the way and when it gets too embarrassing for the families, they usually get disposed of.
Yeah I saw online that sometimes a couple of them will venture to other neighbourhoods!! Especially since their animals that move around a lot! But thankfully so far, as from what I know - they haven’t settled into a long-staying populations in other areas! 🙏
Aw yeah sometimes a few might venture out!! But from my understanding, it’s just Aljunied and Bidadari/Woodleigh that has a longstanding population! 🙏☺️
Bidadari (Angel)was before a Muslim cemetery.During hari raya my family went to visit our late grand mother grave.Yeah,I used to saw some beautiful creatures,Jumping from branches to branches. And I didn't know that finlayson squirrel still exists till now. 🐿️
Kind of curious about the variable squirrel being aggressive and chasing away the local species. I've seen a pair of them around the same tree as a different squirrel
Wahhh when and where was this!! That’s pretty cool! But hmm Variable Squirrels can come in varying fur colours (more brown/more white) too, so could it be just another pair of Variables? Or was it the Plantain Squirrels with the stripes on the side?
@@LittleRedJungle It was a few years ago near a residential area. Hmm, it could potentially be another Variable with a different morph. It was almost fully brown with lighter markings around its eyes and snout but I don't remember it having any stripes on the side 🤔
It's very lucky for you to see rare species in nature of Singapore! Straw Headed Bulbul is critically endangered bird, but its number in Singapore is stable? Nice! That fact reminds me of another animal... Water Deer is also one of endangered species. Water Deers live in China and Korea(yeah my home country). While around 10,000 of them are known to exist in China, Korea is known to have at least 'ten times' of that number(information in year 2021). AT LEAST. It's because in Korea, general poaching is declining and big predators like tigers and wolves were gone in the wild. Most of big predators were killed by Japan people during World War, or experienced habitat loss and Korean War. How ironic... My country is successfully protecting one of endangered species, because couldn't manage to protect others...
Haha unfortunately we did not! But we did have native wild tigers - so the theory is that Sang Nila Utama mistook a tiger for a lion - and then called us Singapura (Lion City)!! 😂
@@cineroustit well the history of it was all from the Malay Annals - which you can google for!! But I’m certain our Malay forefathers were the native people!
@@titaniumsteel9114 haha yall really too kind. Mad respect to both Steve Irwin and David Attenborough tho! They’re really the goats - so ngl there’s no comparison there!
