Imaged from my backyard in Batavia Ohio this is a 2-hr time-lapse of the sun's atmosphere ( Chromosphere) on March 11, 2024, showing a major prominence and the lift-off of a plasma filament from AR-3599 that may have produced a CME. I don't yet know if the CME is confirmed and if any of it was earth-directed.

AR-Active Region, typically a magnetic storm on the surface of the Earth containing one or more sunspots.
CME-Coronlal Mass Ejection, a huge mass of charged plasma typically many times the volume of the Earth shot into space out of the sun's atmosphere. These can cause aurora and other effects on the Earth if sent in our direction.
