This video is my opinions and experiences with the product, and is in no way intended to be the final hammer of judgment. Please gather all the information you can before deciding to buy or not buy any given vapor product.
Joyetech Cuboid
TLDW: Cool device that feels much more high quality than the asking price. TC works well, Wattage works well. I actually really like the separate battery level indicators as well. Good stuff from Joyetech for sure.

It is so refreshing to see a review after a device has been in use for some period of time rather than the "Unboxing" videos. One gain little to nothing from the initial reviews. Thanks so much for presenting the Cuboid with some comments from experienced use. Hats Off!

I don't think I've ever seen horizontal buttons go from + to - . That would be extremely counter-intuitive. I personally like the cleaner aesthetic this has with no markings. Pretty sleek.

Okay, I was using cuboid for last 1,5 month. Here's what i found bugging me in this video 1. You were saying that in tc u can adjust wattage only up, but a week ago they rolled an update on it. 2. IT DOES GODDAMN 200W!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!ONEONE 3. Around 9:00 You were complaining about various ohm readings of the same atomizer. Cuboid remembers last coil resistance and u locked it when it was actually 0.23 . After vaping it you took your velocity off the cuboid when it was still pulling vapor(sic!) and plugged it on another mod. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER NICK!! lol still love u no hate intended 4sure

The USB port is there because that's where the board is. They couldn't put it on the bottom, that's where the batteries are. They would have to reroute them which would just make the device bulkier. No need.

Random but I bought some dotmod stuff because of you (petri v2 rda and a handful of tips/cloud cap) and all I can say is wow.... These tips are absolutely amazing. They stay cooler than some pure delrin tips I have.... So comfy and damn they look nice. I can't wait to try the petri v2... Right now it's built with a single fused Clapton at .6ohms waiting for my noisy cricket tomorrow. I'm so glad I checked out what you actually use over and over and gave it a try. Thanks for being around. You were the first reviewer I watched back in 09

I'm sure you've probably heard this already, but here goes anyway. The temperature control function solely relies on changing resistance to (somewhat) accurately gauge temperature. When the coil heats up the resistance follows; this is how they "know" the temperature and also why locking the resistance is important. By taking a hot/warm coil and moving it from device to device the initial resistance reading will change because the coil is in the process of cooling down. This is also likely why once you let it sit for ten minutes they all read the same. Anyway, hope this was at least a little helpful. Thanks for doing great vids!

There's a bug with the VTC mini, Cuboid and RX200 with TC. For starters it reads the resistance wrong. With the same atomizer using a TC (e.g. stainless steel) coil, switch from power to TC mode and it will display a different resistance. When attaching a new atomizer In TC mode, it doesn't always ask the "new coil" question. If it doesn't ask, TC won't work properly and you'll get a very weak vape. To make it work properly you have to force the "new coil" question. If you're lucky, all it takes is removing the atomizer, clicking the power button and attaching the atomizer again and hit any button. If the "new coil" question doesn't show, you ran into the TC bug. The only way to then make it work properly is to swap to another atomizer with a TC build but slightly higher resistance and then swap back to the one you want to use.

Great review Nick!! I'm with Allen Gross keep doing the bloopers! I love my Cuboid, had it for several months and it has never let me down. Rarely use it in temp mode but it seems to work there on the few occasions I've had a temp coil in a tank.
@mjbrady83

I've also experienced some headaches when it comes to TC on the cuboid. I'm using the Cubis tank on mine with the SS316 coils. I noticed that I was having some major issues with it matching the resting resistance to a high temp. You can check this by doing a single tap of the fire button and reading the temp it shows after putting on a cold coil. At first I was getting readings in the 170F-210F range, and then I was hitting temp protection almost immediately and getting a very cold weak vape from it. I found that if you unscrew the atty and fire the device without it connected it will force a reset of the base resistance reading. You want to keep doing this until the single click reveals a temp that's closer to room temp. I got mine reading at 70F now when I tap the fire button on a cold coil, which is spot on. Now I'm getting a satisfying warm vape with the temp set at 460F. Certainly a finicky device with TC, and I'm not surprised the DNA chips do it much better. I experience similar issues with my VTC mini. Hopefully firmware upgrades will help improve TC performance on both these devices.

I'm with you on this one, Nick. I don't want to have to learn about all this stuff about temperature control. I like my unregulated devices and mechanical mods. So it's nice to know not everyone is trying to take it as far as it can go and just sticking to what they like and enjoy vaping. Sorry again for the long comment. On another note I really enjoyed your bloopers are the end of the video. You should do that on all your videos with the "That's enough" guy at the end. haha!

I've had my Cuboid 150 for at least 2 years now. I've dropped it, it's gotten soaked through Construction jobs, dust factories, the metal on all sides has been worn down from the natural oils on my hands, the battery door is a bit more loose, and the 'Puff Counter' has reset a few different times now. It still works lol. By far the best mod i've used for the price. I'll be looking in for a completely new setup in the future, but i think i may just hang on to this as something that's been with me through thick and thin.

I figured you would mention something about the 510 connector problem seeing as how you're reviewing it after having it for 2 months. Some pins on certain atomizers are too long for that 510 connector and push down the mod's pin too far that pushes an insulator out place. This causes it to read "Check Atomizer" and void the warranty. Joyetech stated that any atomizer pin longer than 4.5mm will do this, and they specifically mentioned the Smok TFV4. This can be fixed by using a 0.5mm x 22mm spacer or a 510 heatsink. Problem with that is this: this no longer meets 510 specifications and the fact that it voids the warranty is pretty bogus considering it's advertised with having a 510. This 510 connector is also on the RX200. Eleaf/Joyetech/Wismec has a history of this kind of crap unfortunately. Just a heads up to you and others. Nice shirt btw.

I love my Cubiod I've had for right at 2 months now maaayybe a little longer and so far it hasn't given me any issues at all. I use micro USB for charging it works fine might take some time to fully charge (depending on how low you run the batteries) but the battery life is great last me a good couple of days before needing to charge. I have not done the firmware update cause I simply don't see a reason too as I feel 150w's is plenty. It's a great mod for the price, I couldn't be happier with it.

Nick, I really enjoy your videos. This video on the Cuboid appears that maybe this "sample" version was a bit lacking (compared to production versions I recieved) or maybe the manual was lacking info pertinent to your use of the device. Seems there were a few things you referenced that really seemed to hurt your opinion of this device that were based on features this device does fairly well. If you want to explore the temp mode a bit more consistently I would suggest simply programming that Cuboid with accurate TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) values based on the specific wire you are running. Your video example: Titanium Grade-1 366 Titanium Grade-2 352 Each type of wire has a different TCR value based on how wire temperature changes affect resistance of the wire (how the mod reads and adjusts for the coils). I run S/S 304, and if I simply used the S/S default in the menu the results would be less than optimal (as you seemed to experience). When running in Temp Control mode you should be locking in the resistance. There will be a lock symbol next to the resistance valve on the display when locked. Cuboid I have has 3 (not two as you mentioned) programmable TCR memories (one of the reason I mentioned above that perhaps your "sample" unit is lacking production release features. Another reason was your comment that the USB port is only for upgrades (comments below related to USB port). The USB location is because of the chassis design. BTW, the design results in no wires running all over the interior. Very solid design construction. The 510 connector is mounted to a heavy solid metal part of chassis (functions as heat sink :-) USB port on mine also functions very well for charging (not just upgrades as you mentioned). When unit off, Press-Hold Fire+LeftButtons displays battery voltage of BOTH batteries (very nice feature. When off; clicking FireButton 10x = Internal-Temp and/or 20x = currently installed firmware version. There are currently 4 firmware upgrade options available including 200watt option and also a Smart Menu feature option. I still prefer to vape in wattage mode, and have appreciated a number of the features this device offers. The TCR programmability is in my mind somewhat critical to exploring various wire options in my RDA's Hope some of this is of some help.

For a 2 battery box, the form factor is so great. The only con I have after 2-3 months: the quality of the fire button right out of the box. A totally random quality! Ti wire has some interesting properties in its heating cycle, it has a resistance curve that reacts to heat. This curve flattens out and acts like a resistor and this is why you are seeing resistance variations when you are using it. The resistance curve is relative to wire diameter as well.

Nick, you just discovered the Temperature-Coefficient :-) I am by no means an expert in physics but by clicking the button you fire the coil so it jumps up from 0.23 to 0.37 (that's how TC works). By switching it back to the DNA200 it cools down a bit, so the resistance drops a bit to 0.3 and will settle at 0.23 after some time... Anyway - as always - very nice video! :-)

I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and the only negative I have about it is that when you first start her up your clouds aren't crazy but after she's been warmed up for about 5 or 10 minutes they get to where they're suppose to be. I've never had that issue with my Smok Alien 220 or Vaporesso Nano.

Thanks for the update. My guess about the micro USB port placement would be that it's placed there because the board is on the top of the mod. I think their aim was to keep a slim profile, but with a top side board the mod also wides up being a bit taller than most. The screen placement is easy to pull off because it's nothing but a thin strip of wires and a thin flat screen, but the micro USB ports are take up a good amount of space. Placing the sub port alongside the battery sled would make the device too wide, is what I'm getting at I suppose lol.

Nick, if someone hasn't mentioned yet, your Ti build in your velocity may be giving you that more intense vape because of the preheat function of the DNA200. It seemed like there was no ramp up, so I'm confident that the preheat on your DNA200 definitely kicked in.

Hi Nick, I've had the exact same experience with this temperature control problem on Ti coils on previous Joytech mods. All my VTCs have had this issue with Ti so far, forcing you to increase the limit temp. What is funny is that it seems to get solved by setting a custom temperature coefficient yourself. Another point to be aware of with Ti, that I experienced on several occasions (at least on my VTC mini) : when vaping from a cold coil and with previously well adjusted and locked base resistance (spaced 0.4 mm Ti wire at around .8 Ohms), I had a sudden and really violent power rush as if temp control was suddenly turned off, with crazy heat coming from the coil (I could see it glow from outside, and no it was not self ignition as I recovered it afterwards), leading once to a severe burn on my lip. This was before custom temp coefficients were implemented in the firmware. But for some reason standard Ti seems to cause serious problems on VTC mods. As this Cuboid is basically the same chipset, I would strongly suggest to run Ti coils on custom temp co to avoid accidents. I mean you could really turn your head into a popcorn inhaling on a crazy hot Ti coil. But I have ordered this device anyway as these VTCs are the best mods you can get for your money by far...

I think joytech are smashing the ecig industry of the water. The evic vt and vtc mini have performed for me so well, and the design is so durable egernomic. Really do hope they bring out another device which does temp control a little bit more accurate, like evic vtc2 and the evic vtc mini2.

+GrimmGreen So... i believe if you do an update on the cuboid with the latest firmware it would most likely fix the issues you have with temp control. I own one but i use mine exclusively in wattage mode... one weird thing i found with it is if you press on the battery door in one of the corners it disconnects the batteries and once you let go it reboots.... this issue in itself it is not a big deal until you turn it off and for some reason it gets bumped in your pocket or suitcase or bag and reboots it's self and now your Cuboid is on instead of off and that could lead to a problem...

This is my first dual 18650 mod. Been using it daily for about a month now. Have mostly been using it with the Smok TF-RTA but have just bought a Tsunami 24mm for it which I love. I did upgrade the firmware to make it 200W but I've not used it over 80W so there was no need for that, still nice to have though I suppose. Software seems responsive and glitch-free. It miss-fires about 1/100 but I don't find that to be an issue. Overall I really like it, I like that it shows me the amps. My main, and only gripe for my modest vaping needs, is that it picks up micro scratches, including the screen (which yes I did take the cover off), but then so does my £750 titanium Tissot wrist watch. If you don't like micro-scratches then don't get a stainless steel mod.

I just got the cuboid in black and it feels really nice. Yes the usb can charge, but i wouldn't recommend using it for that. For 44 dollars..what i paid, It feels like a 100 dollar mod. The build quality is really nice. One complaint from me? This mod is HEAVY compared to the size. It hits like a truck in wattage mode which is all i use and i dont mind that the control for the wattage isnt labeled up and down, once you know which one is which it becomes natural. Great video by the way i just thought i would share my thoughts on the device!

i love the reviews always! all i have to say in this video is you brought up some good points all the way until you start comparing a dna 200 device with this. of corse you are going to get better performance off of a $200 mod vs a $40 dollar mod. thats like complaining your base model volvo doesnt keep up with a Lamborghini. other than that great video. i love my cuboid simply because of how well it performs at the price i payed. keep up the videos my friend!

+GrimmGreen i agree with that statement. for someone like me who had a shit mod for temp control before this one, it is a huge step up, but again i have tried much more expensive mods and yes you will obviously get a noticeably better output on those devices. thanks for the reply! keep vaping and reviewing! And stay off of those shit sticks brother!

Hey man, I bought the cuboid mini with the notch coil and it's like a ejuice volcano. I can't send it back because joyetech doesn't have a decent warranty so i am stuck. It wasn't overfilled and the coils were good wicked and rested for like 15 minutes. I tried blowing out the ejuice and after all that problems my tank lost half of its juice without having a decent vape. is there a secret that all youtubers have that it does work?

Tell me about it, why would you ever compare a DNA200 to this, this think is like 38 bucks. Compare it to something in the same price range

It was not really a comparison of devices but about the money, of course the DNA200 is much better quality, but for $35.-$40.bucks & 200w & it works, who cares !

Hi Nick, good review, love the out-takes. I look forward to the purchase of this device. If it is anywhere near as good as the Evic mini it will be a great option for me as I prefer the battery life afforded by a dual 18650. Plus the dimensions will be great for a Kanger Subtank. the display is far more info centric than the Istick 100 watt tc, I have one and I like the vape off the Evic Mini better. Peace to you Sir, thanks for all you do.

Nice review. You probably should have done the software upgrade before reviewing this mod. I liked the bloopers at the end. You should do the alien game, if all your stuff was taken what would you run out and buy. I like that idea.

Dammit, I hate when things get done halfley...Seriously, even though it's a great review, I still can't bring myself to buy a ticket for the temp control train. I'll stick to my n80, Sig150 and SMPL until something else catches my attention.Keep up with the great work, Nick.

My cuboid is having major issues and doesn't work most of the time. I've had it for a few months of daily use. Looking for fixes for the 510 malfunctions. Glad your's is working at the time of the review....would like to hear if anyone else if having issues with the mod not working. Thanks. This was my only decent mod...very sad
@lorenrobertson8039
@lorenrobertson8039 8 лет назад
rtainc I certainly hope that you can fiddle with yours and put an atomizer with a shorter 510, or do as I did. I saw another video on the Cuboid and the guy was having the same issues we are. He cut out a piece of plastic about 1mm thick, put a hole in the middle and fit it on his atty so it would not go so far in, yet set stable on top of the mod. I used a piece of cardboard from a notebook, and cut out a round piece of an old credit card type card and put the cardboard on first to soak up any leaks (my Youde EZ tends to leak a little after filling), and it seems to have fixed the issue. I decided also just to use a different atomizer on the Cuboid that was working on it prior to the problems...it has a shorter pin, so I got my issues sorted out in McGuyver fashion! I sure like some hand me down PIF's or trades...such as older model 30 - 80 watt devices that folks have moved on from and are gathering dust. My sis is pretty desperate for vape gear, so is my dad. I got some good juices to trade, or can buy if price is right, and trade is honest. HAGD and rtainc I hope your vacation is relaxing and fun!

+Loren Robertson had the same problem with mine, as people said the 510 was too shallow causing the connectors to rip off and not be able to read the atomizer. I bought a new one and got tired of fixing mine

AshFPS - Minecraft & COD Daily Sorry to hear you had so much trouble. So what did you buy to replace your Cuboid? i invested in a reuleaux rx200s not realizing until my order had shipped from China that they too had the SAME 510 issues! But now that I know I have been very careful. I pad my atomizers to avoid this issue. Actually works out well...as any juice that might have leaked soaks into the thick paper I use and keeps it out of the atty.

with the latest update the watts in TC are adjustable both ways.... You can pick max power 150 or 200 (version 3.01 or 3.11) and you get some presets for different coils

I really enjoy your reviews and I use them along with a couple other channels to get a good idea what's worth buying and what's complete junk. My only wish is that you had installed the latest firmware, which right now is version 3.11. The updated firmware address's several of the issues you pointed out including increasing the maximum output power to 200 Watts. The Up and Down buttons now actually cycle up and down when selecting power levels and the performance with titanium and stainless has been *vastly* improved over the early firmware. The latest firmware also adds a whole new feature called "SMART" mode. Battery balancing, ripple and voltage stability at high power settings have also been improved. Just my two cents. :)

+JockoFlocko It was my intention. I even emailed Joyetech and they said I was fully updated.

@ReedViews
@ReedViews 8 лет назад
+GrimmGreen IF it is updated to 3.11 it will go to 200W.(also a 150Wversion to add confusion) They also added a new smart mode for power that you would see when you change modes. Also Round Robins now when adjusting so yours is not updated. Works awesome even with SS316. Turn the device off with 5 clicks, than click 20 times to see the firmware version. 3.11 is awesome. Just an FYI. with all these temp control devices I leave the watts at max and just adjust it by temperature now. (Had to break my self of the watt adjust method) These regulated devices do it all for you behind the scene now. I do the same with my DNA200 devices now too. The DNA200 latest update had temperature dominant feature too. Keep up the good work. Vape on.

Over all I would say its a great mod for the price. Cons: (1) The screen should be on the other side, your hand is in the way if you hold it with your right hand and most people are right handed. (2) I find the battery door to be hard to open without batteries in it to push on it. Pros: (1) Price, its cheap, like he said you can get it for under $40. (2) Its built well, made of metal, I think steel. (3) Its small for holding two 18650's, they take up about 85% of its size. (4) Upgrade-able firmware. (5) USB pass-thought, will charge batteries. Out of the hand full of mods I own I really like this one and I would buy a replacement if I lost it.

Nick, I'm a long time watcher but first time commenter. This is about TC. While I understand your frustration, you should take the time to learn it properly or not get so worked up about it and make others fear it or potentially hate it. I've been a temp control Vaper for over 18 months now using only DNA devices, but the biggest issue you'll encounter is switching your atomizer from device to device, not only will that fuck every reading up, but in turn will frustrate you even more. I know your stance is you don't like it, but the basics of it are easy to get and wish you wouldn't give it such a bad name. Your videos are great and this is just intended as information for you. I wish I could sit down with you for 15 minutes and explain how TC can work, and work properly at that. It's not for everyone, especially without knowing what's going on. Cheers pal.

You should play with the TCR mode. NB: The higher the TCR value, the lower the temperature at which vapour will be produced. Hence you can add more power without it melting your mouth. I've found it best to select the wattage I want, then adjust the TCR value until I hit the spot. Even just 5 points can make a difference of 20 degrees or more.

You should lock the resistance for temp control in this device, this applies to Ni and Ti coils. (3clicks on fire button, left, left, tight, fire).

I feel like the USB is set up there to stay out of the way of the battery compartment, keep the overall box slimmer then having to add another ~1/4 on the side to make room for the USB plug and connectors.

As for me I'm loving my Cuboid now. I'm not fond of Temp mode but of I see a SS or Nickel wire I might try it one day but as for now I'm good at it with Clapton 26 x 34 wire resting at .34 oHm and using at 80w at wattage mode. Cheap yet reliable vw mod that fits in my hand and is very handy.

+Anthony “OhmShark” Clark I dunno about the Cuboid, but I regularly rock my VTC Mini (price-to-features, the best mass produced mod of 2015 imho) on dual coiled titanium. Bellus, Griffin, Goblin Mini, Twisted Messes RDA, they all are simply outstanding on that chipset. Typical build is dual 26awg 2.5mm 7-wrap Ti and it consistently comes out to 0.12-0.14, rocking between 430-500 degrees depending on my mood. For a light, relaxed vape, I'm down 430-440, for a more aggressive warm vape I'm 480-500. For the money I honestly don't believe there is a better value on the market. If others have bad experiences I'm sorry for that, and perhaps I've been fortunate, but for me the experience has been just outstanding.

All you have to do is pulse The coil a couple of times then lock the ohms a little bit higher than normal that will increase the voltage and then it will give you the Vape you want. A lot of mods do that and a lot of temp control coils do that
