I'm constantly getting a call from my Aetna ins requesting a home check. I don't trust the system/procedure of some stranger making an assessment of my needs, health, and home. Nope!

It is becoming standard in the industry esp for people on Medicare Advantage plans. And they will have ID etc. I like them coming to me for once. But last year, alas, they did the annual health and wellness over a secure video conference line. I understand your reluctance but don't screw yourself by not complying when SSA gets your medical records during review and can see you are not complying with recommended care. It is also a great chance to show you are participating and a great chance to have a nurse practitioner document your work related limitations. Fine, dont let them into your house, meet them at a Starbucks, or request a video conference. PS They don't care about your home. Put that thought away.

@lakeis3 They ask your medication, your disability, check blood pressure. Etc.

It's all about the Judge! I applied for disability and was denied, I appealed it and was denied, thats when I got a Lawyer, I had a good medical record to back me up, took me a year after the 2 denials to go in front of a Judge only to receive a letter on the mail I was denied, My Lawyer appealed it and I was denied, my lawyer suggested me a lawyer that works with him on a Federal Level and so I went for it, Weeks after I guess SS knew I have filed and They approved me and only gave me $2000 of back pay, A year later my already filled case to federal was approved and I went in front of another Judge who Instantly approved me and I got a good amount of back pay money. I was told SS was trying to run circles on me the first time around and thought I was just going to settle for a quick money and approval of disability but they were wrong, Glad I took it to Federal Court. It was a almost 2 1/2 years of confusion but Glad it finally was over and I was granted Disability by a Judge bc the first one denied me even with lots of medical record and a good lawyer.

It sounds like you've been through quite a challenging journey, and it's understandable to feel frustrated with the process. Your experience highlights the complexities and hurdles that can come with applying for disability benefits. The fact that you had to go through multiple denials and appeals before finally getting approved speaks volumes about your perseverance and determination. It's unfortunate that despite having a good medical record and legal support, the initial stages were not in your favor. However, your decision to pursue the case at the federal level ultimately led to a positive outcome. This not only secured your benefits but also ensured you received a fair amount of back pay, which you rightfully deserved. Your story is a powerful reminder that the process can be unpredictable and sometimes feel unfair. Yet, it also shows that persistence and utilizing every available legal avenue can make a significant difference. I'm glad to hear that after such a long and confusing ordeal, you were finally granted the disability benefits you needed. Your experience will undoubtedly resonate with many others facing similar struggles, providing them with hope and encouragement to keep fighting for their rights.

How long is normal before heading back about my ssdi? Where can I get an update about it?

Mine took 15 months wherein I was denied and then had to find legal repr and appeal, see their doctors again, and go to court. Social Security Administration last week announced that it is refocusing its Personnel toward processing new claims (instead of doing new claims AND continuing reviews) in order to bring down the backlog. So I wish you well. What I noticed here reading comments, cuz I watch pretty much all of the videos even though I already won my case, is that some people report getting approved very quickly, couple of months. But I think the norm is at least 4 months. Maybe you live in a state, too that moves faster or slower on its federal disability claims. As far as following up, anytime if you have a case number. The correspondence will tell you where your local office is, and also the SSA Disability website is useful. And yes I did pretty much run thru my savings, not saying waiting that long was easy. I was able to tap into my State's short term disabilty program for several months which helped. And of course, food assistance from the county.

Hi Renee. The timeline for hearing back about your Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) application can vary widely depending on various factors, including the complexity of your case, the backlog of cases in your area, and the thoroughness of the medical evidence you've provided. Typically, it can take anywhere from a few months to over a year to receive a decision. However, you can check the status of your application at any time through the Social Security Administration's (SSA) online portal.

My hospital sends a physical therapy & nurses to my home, also home oxygen is hooked up to a modem being constantly monitored by hospital & insurance, I explained to SSA , she told me very good, but she knew already. Then my case was transferred to SSA/BOSTON , the lady in charge Told me I was approved for SSDI , I had no lawyer & it took 63 days.

My wife is on SSDI, she has 5 different things wrong with her, she was in line to get major back surgery after her pain management Dr. said there is nothing more he can do for her, she has extreme scolliosis, 2 different Drs. said they would not perform the surgery because she has minor drop-foot, and that it would be too dangerous, my question is how do we know if this is all documented, if she gets a review from SSDI? I am sure her 8 other surgeries are documented. Thanks for any help.

Hi Michael. Ensuring that all medical conditions and treatments are thoroughly documented is crucial, especially for SSDI reviews. Please ensure your Medical records are complete and valid and available and log on to your portal to review the notes.
