Welcome back to the New York vlogs!! In this penultimate installment, we're gonna catch two shows on Broadway (Saturday twodohshay) and talk very briefly about Olive Garden.
I just need to reiterate how fantastic Once on the Island is. In the vlog I was just too stunned to say anything intelligent, so here are some thoughts after the fact: It is the perfect mix between spectacle and storytelling. The set is genius and immersive, the pre-show/vision of the production is refreshing and realistic. The performances are some of the best I've seen in my entire life. The joy, sorrow, energy, and stakes are palpable. I had goosebumps for the entire performance. It's magical, honest, and thrilling. Since I have returned from New York, I've talked extensively with my friends and other artists about how this show has affected us. If you get a chance to see it, I would highly recommend it. This show moved me so deeply. This is the kind of theatre that not only makes me proud to be part of the community, but inspires me to be a better, more attentive artist.

I wanted to go soo bad when i was in NY. But none of my family knew much about it, and it was really expensive in comparison to others so i couldnt go. But even from previews online, the tony performance and the fact its a theatre in the round, i could tell it was such an immersive show, with true impactful story telling UGH i hope it stays on Broadway for quite some time so i can hopefully see it one day )):

I saw Once on this Island when I went to New York in April. It was the greatest theater experience I have ever been apart of. It was beautiful and heartbreaking. I have been telling the world that they need to go see this show!

I'm so glad you liked Once on this Island! I wish so much I could see it because of the beautiful story, design, cast, and of course Michael Arden's direction. I think he is brilliant and is doing exactly what should be done with a revival - not doing the show just to direct it, but to reinvent it.

Kat! No joke I was just in NYC for the day with my dance company to see "Hello, Dolly!" with Bette Midler and to take classes at Broadway Dance Center. I stage doored after the show and met Gavin Creel and being me I totally fangirled and got a pic and my playbill signed and we talked for a little bit. So the Shubert Theater is where "Hello, Dolly!" is performed, and the Broadhurst Theater where they do "Anastasia" is like right next to it, and I saw Christy Altomare at the stage door signing autographs and I freaked out and debated whether or not I should get her autograph and a picture because I wasn't at "Anastasia" and my dance director saw me freaking out and said "Go up to her!" and me being the person that I am I didn't because I didn't want to be embarrased by not having an "Anastasia" playbill. Biggest regret of my life.

I saw once on this island two weeks ago and it was amazing. It probably had the best stage door experience except for the fact that I had to leave the stage door early because I was dehydrated and was almost about to pass out so I had to go back to my hotel.

I just saw Once On This Island two weeks ago, and it was amazing! My reaction was the exact same after seeing it. It is by far my favorite show I've ever seen. The entire cast is so full of energy (it's like you take a shot of adrenaline when they perform the finale). P.S.-the goat is the best part

I had a two show day in New York when I was there over thanksgiving and it was the best day of my life! I saw The Book of Mormon and Waitress and they were both so amazing! I’m so sad I won’t be able to catch once on this island before it closes though

When I went to Hello Dolly my mom and I took pictures outside the theatre then Bernadette came out and I was just so Starstruck that all I said was "Hi Ms. Peters" *insert akwardness* and she was like "Hello" and I cried for about 30 minutes on our walk back to the hotel

the choreography was amazing, there are some simple numbers and then a few showstoppers (before the parade passes by and Hello Dolly were my personal faves) Costumes and sets were breathtaking. As for the staging, nothing over the top or revolutionary. Bernadette added a certain effect to the atmosphere but the show would still be amazing without her... I definitely recommend!

1. YAS ONCE ON THIS ISLAND!!! I saw it a few weeks ago and I’m seriously considering seeing it again in September 😍😍 2. There’s actually an exit on the other side of the Shubert (where al of the kids exited during Matilda), so idk why the actors are coming out of the stagedoor just to leave...? That’s really strange. You would think they would be able to use some other exit.

I saw Matilda when it was at the Shubert, and yes, that stage door is so weird! It's even crazier after a matinee on a two show day, because the actors just want to grab something to eat (or a coffee/sandwich at Starbucks if you're Lesli Margherita, who signs all of her Playbills in pink or purple Sharpie, which is something I aspire to)! Did you see Bernadette or Donna Murphy?
