I also am a one man operation, been doing this over 35 yrs. I still learn everyday. Thanks for the videos, nice work.

I dont think i have ever seen an ac unit big enough for someone to get down inside of it without tearing the Fins up.

I always put a heat gun on those accumulators when reclaiming. Seems to work most of the time

Never seen anyone crawl inside a condensing unit before. Whatever works

That thing was four feet tall. It was either that or remove the coil. Fortunately there was plenty of room in there.

7:33 - I was worrying up to that point because the hose doesn't head straight behind you. Kinda close there.

My dude. Respirator. Nitrogen flow. Every time, I do these things. I’m four years in. Respirator isn’t even gonna get it all but better than nothing with appropriate filter. Also, heating that accumulator up with heat gun or even just a hose would help boil that junk off. Idk, my buddy and I are anal as hell about keeping peoples shit clean and running good. Time is money, but good habits in setup and tear down don’t cost much. Video is two years old and you did a good repair just saying. Good catch on strapping that wire too.

Ive used a fan in the past as a powered exhaust...if your lucky you can set it to low speed and prop it agaisnt the wall.

Is it recommended to remove an old line drier located inside the condensing unit?

Do you cut the vapor and liquid lines from the compressor or do you torch them out? Im doing one now and the 7/8” vapor line is giving me a hell of a time.
@shannonhill3356
@shannonhill3356 8 месяцев назад
Most guys get on my ass but I prefer to torch em out (but I always flow nitrogen anytime heat hits refrigerant lines, too). I know it’s never “safest” because flame out and popping but I do. ….unless it’s 7/8. Then I’m willing to cut and junctions even if needed usually. My turbo torch air/acetylene kit with the big tip can actually get those 7/8 all right, but it’s still a pain to maneuver 7/8 so damn rigid

i agree using heat gun to get refrigerant out of accumulator

We just purchased a American Standard System. The inside walls are not smooth like this unit (ours has aluminum Spine Fins) may make jumping inside not possible?
@shannonhill3356
@shannonhill3356 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, I’m a pretty thin guy but with the AmStan/Trane units they tend to have really wide-wound coils I’m pretty easily able to get in em but for some guys yeah can be tough and may even require a second hand to pull a 5t compressor from.

Those are tough jobs, I’d rather do it like you did than remove condenser coils... units always end up rattling when I pull them all the way apart

Sounds like someone doesn't know how to run a weed eater or hedge trimmer whatever that is it's running in the background should never let fully off the trigger in between passes maybe let off a little bit but not all the way and unless you like replacing the engine every season that's really hard on the clutch.

Quick question, what size tip do you use for brazing. It might be just the way it looks in the videos but it seems the flame fans out like a spray gun. BTY, nice work!
@HVACGUY
@HVACGUY 3 года назад
i just looked and it’s a 3. I may do a video on proper way to braze. I’ve seen many people not mix their acetylene and oxygen correctly. the way mine appears May be more due to how I mix the flame, than the tip.

I know it’s not ideal but the few times I have been in your situation with phosgene gas potential I recover the charge then leave an old vacuum pump run overnight. That really helps boil out the rest of the gas. Unfortunately time is the issue but stay safe.👍
@jakem117
@jakem117 3 года назад
R410a Can't create phosgene gas. only chlorinated refrigerants can. However, I agree refrigerant decomposition is nasty..

@@jakem117 100% correct, unfortunately we still service a lot of older R22 equipment

You must have a garbage vacuum pump you don't care about and want to replace often. I use quality equipment and run Fieldpiece VP87's with Trublu dual hose setup. I do a double or trip evacuation in with decay tests in between in less than 45-60 minutes. Leaving a pump running all night will just burn it out. That makes zero sense at all unless you are talking massive tonnage RTU's.
