Thanks for this valuable and potentially life saving video, Dr. Sung. I eat canned cod liver (not oil) a couple times a week. I also eat sardines fairly often. I am hoping this is a positive practice.
Thank you for your content and for this excellent video on CVD reduction. I have heard good and bad things about aspirin and hope you will address this at some point, time permitting.
Thank you for making this video and all the information shared, it surely helps understand more about your heart health and the deficiencies and solutions to these. Thank you!
Folate. not folic acid. Folic acid is synthetic , man made and anyone with MTHFR mutation , which many have and dont know they have need the L-Methyl forms of B12 and Folate. B1 you want to take benfotiamine . 10x better absorbed and convert into B1 compared to trying to absorb B1 itself.
Yes, I learned about this when I had Lyme disease. My Lyme dr also had a master's in public health in nutrition. He did a red blood cell analysis and found that I have the MTHFR mutation. Many people don't know this nor have they ever heard of it but it is very important!
I've heard that folate is the best form to take compared to synthetic folic acid!! With regards to total cholesterol the syntoms are could be felt when the cholesterol level is over 235 mg/DL my total cholesterol level in a 272 mg/DL I experience breathing difficulty, chest heaviness overall feels terrible
I've read that folic acid and folate are not interchangeable - that folate is what you want, not the synthetic folic acid. Lots of confusion around these two?
There are a lot of people who can't convert folate or folic acid therefore absorption is reduced or nullified. If you haven't been tested for MTHFR SNPS then taking methylfolate is better version. Check out Dr Ben Lynch's work and book Dirty Genes to find out why. Not an affiliate just an informed supplement taker.
Thanks for this information. I have type1diabetes and worry about these two things. I'm gonna order me some of the fish oil. NOW Foods makes one that I've bought for my better half. Not sure how good it is, but we'll see. I already have the Bs, but don't take them. Oops..... thanks
What's up Doc? I use to take Fish oil but now I take Flaxseed oil as a replacement. They both have Omega fats which is good for the heart. Does it matter which one I take?
Folic acid is synthetic and cannot be converted properly by up to 60% of the population. Education on type of folate is crucial for this. Heart disease risk is increased by the MTHFR gene mutation which up to 60% of the population has and doctors are not educated on. People with the MTHFR gene mutations need ACTIVE B vitamins (including folate, not folic acid), in order for the vitamins to pass the blood brain barrier and get to the needed areas of the body.
Yes, you are correct. And I'm not promoting Folic Acid, however, the study was on Folic Acid. Imagine if they did the studies with Methyl folate or folinic acid, the outcome could be even better. Research in nutrition is lacking but these studies at least show some benefits to even Folic Acid. Genetic variation can play a role is all patients so that is where a personalized functional medicine approach would be best. Best, Dr. Jin
A teaspoon of Chia seed oil = 720 mg Omega-3 A teaspoon cod liver oil = 800 mg Omega-3 Chia seed oil might be a better choice because of the heavy metals in fish. Folic acid or Folate? Perhaps, Folate is better absorbed and also it is better no to have the risks of unmetabolized Folic Acid which is linked to cancer and other health problems.
@@teresamexico309 The fact you actually believe Cod Liver Oil contains heavy metals and that its Omega 3 BCFA content is somehow comparable to Chia Seed Oil is astounding. You do not have any formal training in Nutrition nor a Medical background correct?
@@roddevereaux1830 I am an Engineer. As for my comment, in not place I said that Chia seed oil is better than Cod liver oil to start with. However, it would be interesting to review it. Although, were I live it is easier for me to get just pressed Chia seed oil than Cod liver oil and way cheaper. My comment of heavy metals was for "fish" in general as it says in the bottles that I get my Omega-3 from fish: "This fish oil is tested to be free of contaminants like PCBs, dioxins, mercury and heavy metals....." on one side, on another; not all that says Omega-3 it is actually omega-3. People must be aware and be sure of what they are buying and that is free of contaminants like heavy metals. Ideally, getting Omega-3 from fresh fish would be great but many of us we do not live near reliable/clean sources, so we have to rely on the omega-3 in bottles and/or in the chia seed oil. I do not believe anything, I do research info from scientific journals in matters that include nutrition/medicine, etc...as for the chia seed oil here is a sample: Nutritional and therapeutic perspectives of Chia(Salvia hispanica L.): a review J. Food Sci Technol. 2016 Apr; 53(4): 1750-1758.
@@ClaraMagdalenaDesposyni thanks! 🙏🏽Was wondering too, if needed to take a higher dose of folate because of that gene. Or as long as it’s methylated form.
My 69-year-old husband used to bruise a lot, but I had no idea that the fish oil he was taking could do that. Is that a fact?? He doesn't generally take it anymore and hasn't been bruising. We didn't know why.
It may be due to the thinning of the blood which fish oil causes. I've been taking Aspirin for more than 3 years (because of a stroke) and I've noticed the same bruising lately.
Dr. Sung I found this video questioning the fish oil properties and also about its quality because of oxidation. How good for you is fish oil really? Front line PBS (2016) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cVsaDOLfQPs.html Any word on that? Thank you in advance.
If you start your research on stroke recovery a lot of stroke victims have posted on Tiktok and RU-vid. My mother is recovering and I was pleasantly surprised what I found on social media that I could ask her doctor about. I know he is sick of me.
Nice video I like how you explained a different point at the end of the quality in The kind specifically. 🎣 I’d like to add Nattokinase, SHIATSU ❤ and if you can’t find shiatsu therapist, an acupuncturist.
