This is two different service calls on two different days, the first one is a walk-in cooler at a school that is running warm and the other is a kitchen at a restaurant that is 80°.

Hey Rick, you remind me so much of my Service manager I had at at Carrier Transicold servicing truck and trailer reefers. Your mannerisms, work ethic, vast knowledge and attention to detail is uncanny, hell you even resemble him. I’ve been doing commercial/industrial refrigeration over 20 years, yet I’ve learned a shit ton of tips, tricks and how to’s from you. I am now self employed , new techs in this field are getting harder to come by. Keep up the great videos you make it look easy. Pete.

How about: in the fall do some food tasting reviews of their cafeteria food? I'd be interested in seeing what's being served these days, and whether the taste has improved. Thanks for the video.

That school walk-in may be old, but it's been very well-kept and has a beautiful vintage aesthetic. I like it. If the box itself ever needed replacement, I'd keep as much of the original as humanly possible because it's so pristine! 12:49 - That has to be the bulgiest cap I've ever seen on any HVAC channel on RU-vid. The toilet line being used as conduit is HILARIOUS! It does the job, though. And you thought the cap replacement was going to be a boring job?

If I was in a rush I'd ask the customer if it was working fine before it quit. If they say yes then I would throw on the capacitor and leave. That's a good way to tell if a residential customer is cheap and doesn't want to pay as much. Commercial customer I would go all out and fix as much as they would let me. It's hard to please everyone these days. Some people just want you out of there as quick and cheap as possible. When you bring up more than one thing to a residential customer they will sometimes think you're trying to scam them. It's hard out there these days.
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival Месяц назад
That’s all great points. The only thing I would add to your point is another way to help protect yourself against a call back is to note what you seen and what you recommended to the customer. Then note on your paperwork customer choose to not do…. Have them sign it when you finished. Then when it takes a cap later your covered

12:57 - I thought I’d _seen it all_ when, on a no-cool, I walked up to an RTU with a frozen-over recip and evap where the previous ‘tech’ taped the contactor closed with a thumbtack holding in the armature! Nope! This one has to be it! (BTW: I replaced the 75 VA control transformer and removed the thumbtack.)

Another day in the life of an HVAC service tech. I like that scale....i have the Testo one with the solenoid and an FP. I'm a fan of Inficon products so i don't doubt its a quality scale. I do really like the weight it can take. I use large tanks all the time. Thanks for sharing Rick

I think the reason the capacitor overheated and swelled up is because they sealed that compartment off with silicone so it didn’t have any airflow to help cool it down 😅😅😅

@@HVACRSurvival just the other day I did a recovery on a chiller 2 circuits with 308 pounds of 134a each circuit. Had to manhandle the full recovery tanks when they weigh 205 pounds ! Boy is that a b*tch of a job !
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival Месяц назад
@@sterlingarcher46 how much does your recovery tank hold
@sterlingarcher46
@sterlingarcher46 Месяц назад
@@HVACRSurvival them big ol' buggers they allow up to 62kg of r134a ( about 136-137 pounds ) . The Tare alone is 30 to 32 kg ( 66-70 pounds ). Yes technically you could put in more but 62kg is what the manufacturer has set as a safety limit . I much prefer the regular tanks because even though you'd need over twice a many tanks for the same charge , at least they're so much easier to handle . The big tanks are very tall and the handle is around the tap so it makes it super difficult to carry them . I usually use a trolley but you know how it is with roof tops and all that , sometimes you have no choice but to lift 'em sum b*tch !
