In this video, I'm sharing my own practice watercoloring blue skies with cloud using two different methods.
The biggest takeaway I got from practicing these clouds was this:
The movement of the brush strokes creates movement and dimension in the painting, especially in large areas of washes. But the magic happens when you don’t push the paint around too much on the paper. Learn to let go and leave it be.

If you link me to a reference photo to give me an idea of what you're thinking, maybe I can!

Both are beautiful and I can't wait to try them. Thank you for including the name of the paint color. In the case of a sunset, could one use a pink underwash? Obviously I'm a beginner. Lol

Sorry for the late response! And yes in the case of a sunset, I don't see why you couldn't use a pink underwash :)

Do you use any picture reference & follow closely to the reference ? I feel that I can’t just spontaneously decide where to put color & where not to do it like you. Do you have an image in your mind how the clouds look like before drawing ? I mean I want to know how much is it drawing based on experience & how much of it is spontaneous ?

Hi, knowing me, I'm pretty sure that I did use a reference photo - and I wish I could link them for you! My earlier videos I had not gotten in the habit of providing links to my references. However, I love using the following sites to find reference photos for things (because I tend to use them quite a bit, if not always!) Even if I end up deviating from the reference photo, I have something to refer to if I feel lost. It is hard for me to create from memory or imagination - I think everyone is different and some people can do this amazingly. To sum up: Yes I use reference photos! Sometimes I follow it closely, other times it's just a launching point and I will be spontaneous and take liberties! Check out pexels.com or unsplash.com for a lots of free reference photos that you can use as a starting point
