It was May 15, 2014. The Mets and Yankees were both debuting rookie pitchers. As a Mets fan, I focused on the tall, skinny kid with the wild hair. There was something about him and by game's end, I was a fan. Bought a deGrom jersey. I knew that he'd be good, but never imagined he'd be this good. I hope the Mets make him an offer he can't refuse
I never stop being impressed by how crazy his fastball is. He has some movement pitches but his fastball is just this straight on LASER that people are always behind. It reminds me so much of Randy Johnson's fastball. Just a rocket that nobody catches up to.
What separates deGROM is that he has elite control with elite velocity. Every team in the majors has a heat seeker who throws 99+. It's a matter of whether or not the pitcher can consistently control WHERE that 99+ goes is the question and degrom does it better than anyone has in a long, long time. Just hoping that his delivery motion isn't what is making him so prone to these weird injuries so that we as fans can watch him dominate for the next 5+ years.
I'm a Red Sox fan but deGrom is must-see baseball. When he's pitching, I don't care what Boston is doing, I am watching the Mets. As a former high school and college pitcher who knows how hard it is to maintain consistency and control, I am just in awe of his command -- maybe once or twice I've seen his stuff falter for an inning or more, but it's a rare thing.
Lol for real. Man should have at least 30 more wins than he does over the course of his career. Not his fault, though. Mets notoriously gave him lack of run support over multiple seasons. Or he’d get yanked after 100 pitches to have the bullpen blow a one or two run lead. In another era he’d be putting up Pedro Martinez W-L records.
DeGrom really is one of the best pitchers of all time. He will never have the huge numbers like a Clemens or a Maddux because he started his career late and he has had to deal with injuries but just off eye test and what he is able to do on the mound. He is pretty damn good.
degrom's SO/W ratio has been absolutely insane. over the 519 batters faced over the past two years he walked only 2.8% of them. he's just forcing batters to either hit his stuff or strike out.
@@LoudounDemocrat I mean in terms of the season as a whole it makes sense bc we had a four run lead and you want to make sure diaz is fresh for this series against the brewers. But it would have been fun to set a new mlb record with him on the mound.
They’re saving his arm for the postseason, brother. Was on the DL half the season. Lol Scherzer had a perfect game through 6 last night and they pulled him, too. The individual records unfortunately have to take a backseat to the pennant race rn
Congratulations on Tying the MLB Record that was Noice but what's crazy is Kerry Woods did it Solo and that I don't see getting broke or tied anytime soon !
